Sorry for the long thread title..

But I'll be buying the S&W M&P 15/22 at Big R retail store here in Indiana and wondering how I can tell if the gun has been fixed for that ejection problem or it was something of that nature with a jamming issue? Is there a way to tell if that has been fixed on the gun before I buy it?

Perhaps a serial number?

Thanks for any replies that can help me with this subject, I plan to be an active member here with buying lots of stuff for this gun and to add to my Glock 23. :)

Ahh, there's the rub. There was no recall on 15-22s, even though there should have been. Now you'll see all the random answers you will get on how to check if yours has been "updated to latest specifications". Check the serial, check the springs, etc etc. If there had been a recall you would know for sure.

Just buy one, and when it blows up call S&W to fix it. That's their position it seems.

I think all the ones with flash hider are updated (2nd generation)

I wonder if this applies to the 15-22P as well. My 15-22P has a flash hider, is serial DUMxxxx with manf date of June 2010. It has the white spring, BUT that spring is a good inch longer then my rifle 15-22 blue spring.

I haven't seen any photos of one that's "Blown Up" yet. I've seen photos of Out Of Battery events that have caused the extractor to go missing.

I have on the other hand, seen some photos of real "Blown Up" "real AR's" :)

The pistol are new, they have to be in specs.

On the other hand, just buy it and quit worrying. The vast majority of us that bought early have not had any trouble at all. Most problems you hear about are ejection problems that are generally easily fixed. Just search on the forum for the fix if you ever need it. Worst case: it might have to go back to S&W, but there are a lot of 15-22's out there that have not had to go back.

I think unless your store has next to zero gun business and never turns over its inventory it is VERY unlikely you would get one of the early guns; some of which had problems. Go buy it, clean it first, shoot CCI mini-mags and have fun.

My boss has the pistol version and it came with the white spring. It's on it's way back to S&W because it won't eject properly.

Wow the pistol's haven't been out that long. You would have thought S&W learned a lesson. My gun ejected okay after I bent the ejector with the original spring. I sented mine back because it was doubling sometimes tripling. Learn something new everyday.
