Buying an M&P9c, not excited.

I'm going back and forth between a 9c and G26, but just can't pull the trigger on either one, so to speak. If you can find one, you might check out a Walther P99c.

I'd also like to check out a subcompact version of the Sig P320, but I haven't seen any out in the wild yet.

Why should a new m&p make you feel excited ?? You already have one so you know the general feel and function. Its tool , not a toy .

Want to feel excited or sick , depends on your back account , go buy a new nighthawk or Wilson. Then you will have a reason to feel something other than buying functional tool for defense .

I have a 9c. I like it, but in the same way that I like my Klein tools, my DeWalt drill, and my Keurig coffee maker, etc. None of them excite me but I am very comfortable knowing that when I need them, they will be there and they will work perfectly. My 9c has holster burn all over it, and a good many scratches. Its pretty dull as a pistol goes. But it has never failed to fire - ever. If it ever did, THAT would excite me.

Hey all. So I'm in the market for a new compact gun and have all but settled on the M&P9c. For some reason though, I'm not excited at all. I just can't explain it. I need a compact 9mm for concealed carry, sized in between my Ruger LCP and my FNH FNX-9. I own a full size M&P45 so I'm familiar with, and like, the platform and the only other gun in that glass that like is the XD Mod 2.0, but it's not quite as comfortable in my hand as the M&P. I'm usually excited when buying a new gun. This time not so much.
I look at working guns the same way. I'd say that I almost never get excited about a firearm and I have quite a few. To me it's like buying anything else. When I realize I need a new shirt for work I just go and buy one. Same with guns. When I realized there are certain situations where I can't carry my usual gun I did some research and went and bought a smaller, easier to conceal one. Right tool for the right job. Is your first priority to bw excited from a carry gun?

What do you mean by lefty friendly? I'm a lefty and all my ambidextrous guns have been accidental. That is to say the type of gun and the price was too good to pass up. There are very very few guns that are completely ambi and most of those are full size service guns. I find it easier to use my trigger finger to drop the mag then having to break my grip to use my thumb. To release the slide I use the slingshot method. I think HK/Walther have the best mag releases m they are right there by the trigger finger and a slight movement to the trigger guard drops the mag.

I assume a lot of guys on here collect guns as a hobby and/or enjoy shooting. I realize it's a tool, but if you're not a little bit excited about dropping 500 bucks on something you do for recreation or even if it is for 'defense', then why do you do it? We buy new tools for our construction business on occasion and I get excited about them.

I'm a lefty and I feel your pain. Lefty friendly guns are not common, but not unheard of.

Sig Pxxx and Glocks are lefty unfriendly. They can be manipulated by a lefty, but there are better out there.

I really like the H&K line. I own a USP compact and it's a marvelous little gun. I switched mine to the V2 control lever and it's perfect for a lefty. They are a little pricey, but worth it.

The M&P guns are the best on the market for lefties.

Having said that, I prefer the 1911. The guns are easy to manipulate as a lefty with a little thought and practice. I highly recommend you shoot one just to see.

As far as being excited, meh, it matters not to me. I don't need to be excited to like a new pistol.

How are Glocks different from 1911 in the controls department? Left side push button release, left side slide release! I run both the same way. Trigger finger for the mag release and slingshot the slide. Same as Sigs P series actually or any 3rd gen S&W.

I agree on the HK. Great guns. Love the feel of my P2000. I only have 2 minor problems with HK. 1) I wish mags were cheaper. Really want the VP9 but paying almost $100 for two mags.....ouch! 2) All those V triggers. They can't just make one or two?

If you're on the fence with this gun, & are not sure if you will keep it, buy a clean used one, & that way if you decide to sell it, you won't lose any money. This is how I bought my 40c, but after 2 years, I still have it, but I could easily sell it for the $325 I paid for it. GARY

this worked for me, picked up a clean 9c at a very good price last summer for my 1st "non .22" firearm. Love shooting it, and using as a learning tool for potential self defense needs (possibly carry as well). Granted i use a fs mag in it (nice to have that option) so have determined i'd probably be more happy with a fs 9 for my needs, but by going used on the 9c either i'll get my $$ out of it if i ever sell or I have a lower cost investment in the small but growing collection.

Back in the summer my wife bought me a full size S&W M&P9. It looks good for what it is, feels good in my hand but the trigger sucks!!! On a Lyman electronic gauge it's 7.11 pound trigger pull. I called S&W about the trigger being so bad & they said for $129.00 they could fix it & get it down to 6 pounds. So they want to charge me that price for a half assed trigger that should never have left the factory in the first place! Or they told me I could have an Apex trigger installed but it would void the warranty! What a great company! And don't get me started to what they have done to Thompson/Center Arms!!!!!!!!!!!!!

M&P 9C alternative (for a lefty)

I feel your pain as a lefty shooter. I own the M&P 9 and 45 full size, and the Shield 9. As a lefty shooter, I sometimes get frustrated with operating the slide lock on my shield, but honestly the only time I'm ever using the slide lock is when loading/unloading (I lock the slide back, toss one loose round into the chamber, drop slide, load full mag when concealing) or when cleaning the gun. Otherwise the slide lock is a non-issue. As for the mag release, much like any other lefty shooter here, I've adapted, and usually use either my trigger finger or the inside of the first knuckle on my middle finger (closest to the mag release) to drop magazines. And when it comes to the safety, I never carry with the safety on, my booger hook is my safety. If I put my finger on the trigger, it's because I intend to fire my weapon. Screw manual safeties (neither of my full size M&Ps have safeties). I've accepted my fate as a lefty shooter, being an afterthought to many gun manufacturers. I actually would like to buy a 9C, for the added capacity when wanting a conceal option that I don't need the increased concealability of my Shield.

If you're absolutely opposed to any firearm that doesn't have the slide lock/safety/mag release on the right side of the pistol, or at least ambi controls, then in my opinion, you're limiting yourself.

I love my Shield 9, and like I said, I plan on getting a 9C for the added capacity eventually. I love the ergonomics of the M&P line of firearms, and they point very naturally for me (I can point shoot without using sights accurately enough to hit a dinner plate at 5yds). For me, ambi controls are a nice perk, but not a deal breaker.

Either way, whether you buy or not, keep on shooting what you shoot! :)

I have both a Shield 9 and a 9C, both of which I really like. I also have a Kahr CW380, a CW9, and a CW45 which are great guns as well.

You might want to check out the Kahr CW9/40, or the Kahr CW45 or CM45.

With all due respect, this sounds ridiculous. If you aren't sure about it, then why waste your money on something you don't really want? I can tell you as an M&P 9c owner that I love mine. It's an outstanding weapon. However I don't consider it an every day carry other than during cold days where I have a hoodie or coat on. It's a compact but thick pistol. If you want something that is truly an every day carry, get a Shield. Buy what you really want. For my money, you can never go wrong with a S&W, Glock or Springfield Armory XD. Those are my 3 favorites and have never failed me on the range or training in the field.

Does putting in an Apex trigger really void the warranty?

I can't add a lot that hasn't already been added but if you aren't excited don't get it. Go to a store with A LOT of guns and then buy the one that feels best in your hand. I bought my 9c because it was dirt cheap. I kinda like it now but it's not my Ruger SR9c. That's my favorite.

Here is a friendly suggestion: If you are not excited about it, the do not purchase it. You will just regret it, and you will likely not get out of it what you have in it.

$399 used but couldn't tell. The kimber solo is a good choice but not ten rounds. Ten rounds? Let's see. Poor shot? Lots of enimies? No faith in the round? OCD? :D
