Bye-bye GVE and Allied Forces!

So worst case, they drop the Sigma and replace it with the SD. What's the problem?

They do.

Yeah I know they make them in black with a black slide. I have a AF SW9VE but I want a green .40 with a black slide.
I just don't like the look of the stainless slide but don't want a .40 that looks just like my 9mm. Guess I could get it Duracoated but hate to spend a extra $75 to $100 on a $300 gun.

And I never understood why anyone wanted a .40. If I want something bigger than a 9mm, I'll get a .45.

I am going to have to +1 on this. I either want capacity or power, I prefer not to compromise on both at the same time.

9mm = laser straight holes to target out to 50 yards with a Mozambique drill to insure target is neutralized

.45 ACP = lob the round onto the target beyond a 20 foot distance but blow a baseball size hole in the target when you do hit. Second shot may, but is not likely to, be needed with a solid hit.

40 S&W = Flatter trajectory to target than the .45 ACP for greater chance to hit your target. More on target power delivered than the 9mm at the same distance so the target goes down quicker and harder. Better barrier penetration than either the 9mm or .45 ACP. Turns the perps cover into concealment only. And with 15+1 in my Sigma, it beats most of the 9mm's out there. What's not to love about the .40 S&W round?

Yes, if you get the LEO mags, they hold 15 rounds of .40S&W instead of the standard 14 rounds.

Also, my Sigma is a lot more concealable than any .45 caliber pistol of comparable capacity. It's my EDC gun.

Well, 96% for 1-shot stopping power-- 11 Rounds-- so 10 Bad guys going down . . . If 11 rounds of .45 ACP will not handle the situation, I don't need 17 .40's-- I want track shoes to get as far away and as fast I can go. :D

Rick, ain't nobody makes track shoes to get this fat outta shape old man runnin'! I also would never expect to put away 10 guys with 11 rounds. I just ain't that good a marksman. I can shoot the hell outta' paper that's hangin' there all still like and not shootin' at me. Moving targets and incoming fire make a world of differance. For me, the more rounds the better. What the hell do I know...

If you've got 15 rounds of .40 in the mag of your S&W poly framed pistol, your shooting a M&P.

S&W does not, nor have they ever produced or sold a special +1 LEO exclusive magazine on any of it's poly pistols.

Checkmate MyLastRook. :D:D
S&W has produced and sold special +1 mags for government/LEO contracts for the Sigma 40VE. I have several of them from S&W so marked with a contract number on them for the my 40VE AF pistol. Google it.
They are available here and elsewhere: 13600 - 40F Sigma Series Mag, .40 S&W, 15 Rounds, Stainless Steel

I've alway's liked the all black but I saw an all gray once that was slick too

a SW40Ti in grey & my 40VE with a 15rnd 40F mag. Cant say anything about `speacial` LEO mags, IDK. But the SW40F sigma did have a .40 with 15 round capacity, the 40F had a different grip style. These mags will fit a later VE sigma, just trim the baseplate.

Saw a tan Sigma today. Also was reading where a few different companies in Asia are making knockoffs although I can't seem to find pictures.

You're for sure right-- I was just making the point that for SD or LE (not war-time combat), if 11 rounds of .45 ACP will not get take care of the problem, it is unlikely that 15 rounds of .40 will do much better. It's time to call for backup and/or to get out of Dodge. Perhaps a 30 Round .22 Mag (Keltec) for a bug would help . . . .22 Mag is not a lot energy, but with 30 rounds per magazine one could inflict some serious damage in short order. (I'd go for the .40 if I were choosing between the .45 & .40-- but, I'd not feel under-gunned with the .45.)

Word.

This news makes me glad I went for the extra 2 mags for the rebate.

So I've seen posts here that there's a VE w/ 11K+ rounds through it - and that's comforting, but what is the longevity of a SW factory mag?

I'm thinkin' out loud here....hmmmm...could S&W be phasing out them Sigma's, replacing them with the SD's to avoid the Glock royalties? Makes sense to me.

Sigma is going no where. I brought this rumor mill and others to the attention of my LGS owner yesterday when I was looking at the M&P .45. Today when I returned to purchase my under gunned .45 ACP. Piff  The owner happily showed me four emails from S&W big wigs. The most important was the one from the president of S&W. Followed by the marketing dept. Cust. Service dept. and the head of production. If a Smith employee is caught or named in this rumor they will be fired! The boss's want this rumor and notion shut right down. I paid for my M&P .45 and left knowing the LGS Owner has some stroke with Smith. :)

I suspect the Sigma will continue in production for contract purposes (and recurringly be available on the commercial market). An analog might be the Sig SP-2022, which is gone, then back, then gone (and also involved in a large US Government contract, although not as big as S&W's).

The SD sounds like Sigma 3.0, like someone said. Better ejector, better trigger, metal sights, grippier surface -- all good. Different mags, not good, but surmountable. If they can bring it in for under $400 to the market, I will stand in line to get one. If it creeps up to $500, I'll go for a full size M&P 9 to supplement my 9c.

9mm vs. 40 vs. 45? My key factor is recoil and arthritis, driving me to 9mm -- but the debate rages on! It won't be solved here, but it highlights the question of whether the SD can be made in 45 or is too thin (one of the Sigma's endearing qualities = thinness).

I've got a 40F mag that is 15 rounds and works great in the 40VE. You could shave the base, I did, but it will work without the mod.
