Cabela's

A friend called me yesterday saying he needed "a shoulder to cry on". Seems he saw a Fox A grade 16ga with 30 inch barrels that was just listed on one of the internet sites probably GI. He called immediately and it had been sold. This gun in decent condition is a $3500 gun all day everyday. Cabela's price $1200. Like I said before either ridiculously high or low.

The Post Falls Cabelas is only a shadow of its former self. Last time I was in there about 2 weeks ago.the Gun Library had only black guns and a few shotguns. There were no primers and no powder!

I regularly visit the Cabela's just south of Charlotte, lots of reloading stuff, but rarely primers now, but do get in some powders. Bought three firearms from their library in the past year, all three great prices. I guess I am lucky that my local Cabela is holding up well. Lots of Hornady and RCBS items. I think part of the problem is that fewer families are "into" shooting and outdoor activites than in the past, hence fewer customers.

The trick to gun shopping at Cabelas is to look at the price tags first, not the gun. Anything under five bills gets a look. This NIB H&R .32 was sitting under a $900 plain jane Model 10. Its like buying guns from a schizophrenic.

Cabela's in Allen, Tx is a nightmare when buying a gun. I went in 2 months ago wanting to buy a gun and waited 40 minutes for a salesperson to sell it to me. He shows up and acts like he is doing me a favor showing me anything. I left after he told me it would be 1.5 to 2 hour checkout. 3 Weeks ago, I went back at opening time and got a really nice salesman. We walked down the counter to the Sig 365XL and i said I will take it. He found a NIB in stock and we proceeded to check out. 1 hour after we started to checkout, I left the store. I went through the turmoil to use my capital one card points. Never again will go through a 1 hour checkout to buy a gun.

Same experience at the Glendale, AZ Cabela's a couple of months back.

Just a quick question. Which store is better managed ? Cabelas or Montgomery Ward ? I wish everyone who comments on the management of all vendors for us could make the day to day life and death decisions that must be made.

Nope - just got the veteran discount and called it good.

I didn't know they did a vet discount. Anything is a help! I went into the Library when I was there.. Almost all plastic and bottom feeders

Cabela's in Louisiana is the same. I used to buy all of my hunting clothes, and lots of firearms and reloading supplies there. Not much there anymore. I rarely go now, but stop in occasionally in the hopes that things have turned around. Hoping they build a Sportsman's or Scheels down here soon.

Found this sweetheart in Cabelas @Richmond last week. Not too pretty but I'd never seen or handled one before. [I have two M12 12 gauges that are swell]. A cute little Model 1912 20 ga from 1914. Didn't need it but it felt so good I bought it. $379.00 plus Va tax. Has solid wood and a dent in the mag tube that I've since straightened out. Too bad it's polychoked. It might get to be a riotgun in it's next life. They had plenty of ammo, and reloading bullets but no primers or powder. Only the second one I've ever been in. Always hate when one chain buys up another, the customer always looses.

That M12 20ga was insanely underpriced even with the poly choke. You did VERY well congratulations. Rather than cutting it down to riotgun length you could remove the poly choke and have a thin wall choke tube installed.

Briley will put chokes in Love M-12s early gun is it 2 3/4 inch or 2 1/2 Many early 20s were short chamber Doesn't really matter

I use to order from Cabelas when it was mail order. They had good prices.
Nearest Cabelas was Wheeling, WVa. First time I was there Gun guy PEod me. Over priced stuff to pay for the store. Went back once after opening to redeem gift cards I had accumulated, right before Bass Pro took over. I saw bus load of Amish in there. Like Asian tourist. People are nuts to spend their hard earned money in those type stores. Amazon will wipe them out.

Thanks. I have also thought about doing that too.

The problem is that it is now getting worse..........

Have you looked at the fishing gear prices in Wal-Mart lately ?? !!

I don't really need any fishing gear except new mono every few years but I do feel sorry
for anyone new that needs to gather equipment and lures.

Reloading, spinner making (Salmon to trout) and tying flys can be a good thing..........
