Eggs are at $6 a dozen! Bird flu and destruction of all those chickens. Waffle House just announced a $.50 PER EGG surcharge! So what are they doing with all those dead chickens? Don't see anything about surcharges on Chic-Filet or chicken McNuggets...maybe deep frying kills the virus....

They probably made all the chickens into dog food. Hopefully not people food, but I wouldn't want to give it to my dog, either. You can bet they figured out some way to get some money for all those chickens.

I have read that the dead chickens are being buried. Bulldoze a pit and dump all of the dead chickens into it. Sort of like the destruction of a huge cattle herd in the movie "HUD." Dig a pit, drive the cattle into it, shoot all of them, then cover them over.

Is this another hoax?.........If not ,why aren't there dead birds everywhere? My feeders are full all day with healthy looking birds.

Most are buried, in some cases they are incinerated.

I have been reading articles recommending that bird feeders should be removed from your yard to stop the spread of bird flu among wild birds. I have not done that yet, was not aware that wild birds were getting bird flu.

The original transmission of the bird flu was from wild ducks and geese primarily during migration.
Since the first recognition of the bird flu in 2015 there have been about 500,000 chickens and turkeys killed within 50 miles of me.
The local DNR is constantly retrieving the dead or dying waterfowl from our lakes to try and prevent the Bald Eagles from eating them.
So far the transmission to the wild songbirds is small but it is happening.

Caje...and Bird Flu

Just FYI...Paul "Caje" LeMay (RIP Pierre Jalbert) was always one of my favorites for many seasons on the "Combat" TV show. Along with Saunders, Kirby, and Little John. I still watch them today!

Yes, Bird Flu is drastically affecting prices everywhere. How about $8 for a jar of mayonnaise (mostly just eggs and oil)? Here in Florida we just had two baby Bald Eagles die from Bird Flu that they caught from eating an infected bird for dinner.

Back to egg prices for a minute.... about 10 days ago I was checking egg prices in the local HyVee grocery, regular white, large eggs were 5.49 a doz. But look! Brown cage-free large ones were 3.49. Yes I stocked up.

For the last year or our grocery has had sales of chicken thighs or legs for $1/lb. The thighs sell out quickly.

I hated to read this. I don't like having to shell out additional money for eggs. Your posts normally crack me up, but this one put me in a fowl mood. If all of this is a hoax, the yolk's on us, and I'd like to wring the neck of whoever is trying to pullet.

If the late, great, shouldazagged was still with us, he'd send me to my coop.
