Call from the ATF

I retired before they became a regular item on the street, but my cop kid reliably informs me the preferred setup these days is a 3d printed subcompact Glock frame with an extended mag and the Glock switch. Somebody will set up shop, make a bunch, flood the street market, and move on.

I'd recommend the subReddit "Idiotswithguns" for further info.

I shot a legal Glock model 18 (full auto) a couple of years ago. They are rather hard to hang onto and the rate of climb firing full auto is surprising and a little scary. They burn your ammo up too fast. Lots of shooters assaulting someone are not hitting the people they are shooting at. Collateral damage with a full auto pistol is very high, especially with someone who doesn't know much about them in the first place.

I have a C&R and I got the e-mail too.
Glock switches have become a real problem in Memphis. Cops are finding them quite often.
As Charlie pointed out, the things are completely uncontrolable on full auto. The real danger is to innocent bystanders. You suddenly have 30 bullets headed in a wide general direction with no control at all.
There was a video on the local news a while back. BG is being chased by Police, BG wrecks car, BG then dumps his full auto Glock at officers through the broken out back window. All caught on body cam and shown on the news. I noticed what most people missed. The first one or two shots were aimed at the officers, but from the muzzle flashes I could tell that most all the rest went skyward. No way of knowing where they might have come down at.

There's a video of Hickok45 shooting a FA Glock. While not pinpoint accuracy, he maintained minute-of-hoodrat leve.
I was shocked when I saw a vendor openly advertising he had Glock switches for sale at a local gun show.
Another guy told me he's been selling them for a while.
I haven't seen that vendor lately. ;)

I am not a FFL holder but would like to know how to recognize one on a gun just handling it...
It's pretty simple...
- Make sure the chamber and magazine are empty.
- Point the gun in a safe direction, dry fire it and hold the trigger all the way back.
- Slowly rack the slide about half way back to reset the striker and ease it forward. If the striker releases when the gun goes into battery, it's been converted to full auto.

. Just caught up on last weekends show, OPL. Four utes with burned out license plate light ;) get pulled over. Clayton County GA popo find 4 pistols, stolen or untraceable, including what looked like a G17 with a broomstick out the bottom and a switch.
People need to maintain their cars better. ;)
A common occurrence on OPL.

Joe—this is exactly what I was thinking! It is certainly going to be interesting to see how this plays out. On one hand you have monied, high-end gun collectors at the club in their Rolexes with their Colt Thompsons. And the hood rats with their Glock switches and broken tail lights.

I know if I represented a mischief of rats, charged with Glock their switches, I would be fighting the case on Constitutional grounds.

Depends on how many felonies are already on their rap sheets.
