In the Peoples Republik of Commiefornia, we are very limited on approved, small 9mms. Mostly I carry my 3rd Gen 6906 compact 9mm for EDC (I am a retired LEO, and ALWAYS carry).

While I mostly carried the 6906, I also carried a Shield 9mm when wanting a small, even pocket ready pistol. I sold it when I had an opportunity to obtain an. off-list Glock 43X.

Problem was that once I got it, I HATED the way I shot it. I regretted selling the Shield. which by then were impossible to find her behind enemy lines.

I work part time at a local gunshop and I settled for a Ruger LC9 that came in on consignment. While not a Shield, it was a decent little 9mm.

Well, LNIB Shield with fiber optic sights came in on consignment, so I snatched it up. I know the owner, and he had bought it new three months ago. Shot it once (30 rounds), and didn't like it. (sort of like me and the 43X!)

My new (to me) Shield with Mag Guts kit for 9+1 with short magazine.

I tried different carry pieces over the years and even tried the Sig 365 for a while but in the end, I went back to the Shield too. In my opinion it's a good design, good size, slim profile, easy to carry, and bottom line, I shoot it well. It's not always about how many rounds something holds.

The Shield is a solid choice

I have several Shields in a safe now, having gone to the Plus last year. That way all of us in the family carry the same weapons and mags. I like the Plus trigger and of course the extended capacity.

But we are blessed with a new member of the family, a fine young woman who has taken a firm option on one of our sons. Welp, Christmas saw me take out my finest Shield from the safe, bought in 2018 but never carried, where it's been holding down a shelf for 4 years, clean and unfired. I know, I should be ashamed.

The young lady's eyes lit up like Christmas trees. "Wait till I show my dad, he'll love it!" She's hunted deer and dove, but owned no handgun until now.

Welcome to the family.

For years, my preferred larger carry pistol has been a 469, 669, or 6906. I got my first Shield about 6 years ago, for my smaller sub-compact carry weapon. Prior to that, I tried different S&W, Colt, and Charter .38 snubbies, and also assorted .380s.

Since I first got the Shield, I have strayed from the Shield a few times and dabbled with Ruger LC9, Glock 43X and even the Glock 26 (easy to do, since I work part time in a gun shop). None have been entirely satisfactory, and none I shot as well as I shoot the Shield. (Nothing shoots as well as my 6906!)

I think I have given up on trying other guns. The Shield just fits the hand and shoots really well!

When I started carrying about eight years ago, I bought the Shield 1.0 in 9mm. I loved the pistol, but it regularly stovepiped on me. A trip back to the factory with a new recoil spring didn’t fix the problem, so I traded it for the Glock 43. But I was never enamored with the Glock, hating the lower capacity and I couldn’t shoot it as well as the Shield. So when the Shield 2.0 came out, I took a look at both that and the P365. The Sig just seemed too small for my big hands, so I went with the Shield again. This one was completely reliable and the trigger was better too. When the Plus came out, I moved up to that which has also been reliable and has an outstanding trigger. I have about 3,500 rounds through my Plus now and at this point, can’t imagine ever needing anything else for carry.

I am experimenting with a 365 and optic. I own a 3913, 6906, Shield2.0, DS, and 43X. I keep a bigger gun in my car (presently a VP9) but I usually carry a Shield+.

Right now, I have a CZ 75D PCR. And while it is a great gun, I think I will eventually get another polymer pistol for concealed carry (besides my Ruger LCP Max). It will be either a Shield Plus or a Sig P365X.
