I had another thread going on this software, but I didn't want this to get lost in clutter of that original thread.

In a nutshell, CamoPicker is a Windows program that allows you to load an image of your local landscape (or any picture for that matter), and determine the best camo colors to use for that environment. For instance, if you live in the Texas hill country, you can go out to a local park or wilderness area, snap a pic and load it in this program. Once you've done that, you pick the desired paint system (Cerakoat, Duracoat, etc), and click the Get Colors button. The program will automatically detect the dominant colors and match them to a paint color in the selected paint system. At that point you can "visualize" your weapon with a camo pattern applied that uses the "found" colors.

I think the software is pretty much ready to go, but I don't want to release it to the unbridled masses until a few other sets of eyes have given it the once-over. There currently is no documentation (but the app does have tool tips for each control), but that should be addressed sometime this week in the form of at least one web page (as long as I don't have to go back and fix code). All communications will be handled via email (I will be supplying my email address in a PM to you).

At this time, I'm not looking for new ideas/suggestions unless it directly affects usability. I just want to make sure the software doesn't crash spectacularly, or cause the universe to swing wildly out of sync. I just want someone that's gonna bang on the software. So, I'm looking for 2-3 people to test CamoPicker. Here are the requirements:

0) You have to be reasonably self-aware and be able to comprehend what you read.

1) You have to be reasonably computer savvy (I have no time for hand-holding).

2) You have to be able to use this software without documentation (I've tried to make it possible to do so).

3) You must be running at least Windows Vista, preferably Windows 7.

4) You must have .Net Framework 4.0 installed.

5) You must be able to communicate your thoughts/findings/ideas in English.

If you're up for it AND IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, I will take the first three people that respond with a PM to me. You will get a "welcome" email with the particulars.

Remember, this is NOT a commercial endeavor, and when ready, the software will be released to the general public *free of charge*, so nobody gets anything out of this except the people that actually use the software.

Software download, or disk?
Win 7
.NET Framework 4.0
Can / Will communicate

Will the beta allow for loading photos into itself? If not, I have PS and other editors if necessary.

Time? Other than my PC, saltwater fishing is my only other interest.

I can give it a shot in my spare time. I actually write machine manuals at work as one of my jobs, if you need some help in that regard as well.

It's a download.

Particulars will be delivered via email. Just PM me, and that will start the process of making you a tester.

Testing a given version requires 10-30 minutes. If you can devote that much time every couple of days (assuming I have to fix something and issue another update), PM me, and we'll start the process of making you a tester. Unless bugs are found, I see no reason this testing period should last much beyond Sunday.

Just went through all the available functions. Works like a champ. Looking forward to any additional options you may add to the program.
Well done.

Another tester found an issue that really needs fixing (if you scale/rotate the image, and then flip or mirror it, it just disappears...

It's significant enough to require a rewrite of that part of the code. :/

It may not go public on Sunday as originally planned.

I tried out each color choice/replacement and weapons. Worked perfectly...didn't attempt the mirror, etc.. I use Photoshop, and PSP. They have the same features and I've never had much call to use them.

Well, that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it ...sorry about that, I shoulda went there too. Next Time.

What's that old saying?

"Each new class of users finds a new class of issues"

Why are you surprised? Apple owns the Mac dev world, and the price of admission is high (you have to buy a Mac, and then learn their dev tools). You can run Windows on a Mac (using Parallels), or if Mono works on a Mac, you can find a developer willing to compile the code for it (that developer is NOT me), and run it that way. It *should* work just fine. A buddy of mine compiled it for Linux/Mono, and said it worked - even sent me a screen shot.
