Who is going to Camp Perry this year?

I will be heading to Camp Perry to compete in the Pistol matches again this year.

Anybody else?

I am not going but my younger son is on a local Jr. Pistol Team.
This will be his third year at Perry and he is well-practiced and fired up.

Brings back memories. 1985 was the only year I got to go with the Navy but it was a blast.

I am going to go look around maybe help with the "M1 for Vets" if I can. I want to get a feel for the place and plan to make a week of it next summer.
I just don't have the money this year to compete.
But next year I will compete with an AR15, M1 Garand and M1A.
Last I heard the "M1 for vets" group will be taking 23 wounded vets to compete. All paid for by donations and money raised at local matches.
If you have a minute check out the web site. http://www.m1forvets.com/Home_Page.php

I would like to attend some year. Never have. Thanks for share the video link pete-driver. I am going to look into this organization, M1 for Vets.

Have a great July 4th.:)

I've been on numerous occasions and competed during the pistol phase. Some physical problems have surfaced over the past two years which have pretty much put a stop to me seriously competing with a pistol right now. I will be going to Camp Perry for the Small Arms Firing School for rifle (first time) this year, though. I highly recommend the SAFS for pistol and/or rifle for anyone who wants to improve their marksmanship skills. It is inexpensive as well.

I went from about 1998 until about 2005, every year during service rifle week and competed in the John Garand Match and the President's 100 (somehow I think they need to change the name of that match!)

My daughter lived in Port Clinton and we had a place to stay. I hope to get back some time in the future, however I don't know if I can do service rifle anymore because of the difficulty in getting into sitting and prone positions.

If you've never been, you own it to your self to get there...at least once.

Gutpile,
There is no sitting in the John C. Garand match, and I believe you can get a written waver that allows you to start your rapid fire string in prone position. Instead of standing to prone.
Here is a clip from the CMP website. Look under part 5.0 of the official rules. John

(Shooters with special authorizations who cannot stand prior to the start of rifle rapid-fire stages may compete in all rifle matches; they are eligible for awards in As-Issued Military Rifle Matches,)
