I have a 1984 Model 37 that had an issue with the cylinder skipping while shooting DA. I ended up replacing the cylinder stop and spring which cured the problem however, the replacement part from Midway is made of MIM while all the other parts in the action are forged. Is this going to be an issue in the future?

No, I do not believe it will be an issue in the future.

Last year I sent a 64-3 to the factory for a mechanical tuneup. The cylinder stop was also replaced. Upon return, the work order had a list of new parts. On the invoice listed beside the part description for the cylinder stop was (MIM). So I would say you are fine.

From what I've read amongst the IPSC and Steel Challenge shooters, the MIM cylinder stops are actually better than the old ones. Go figure...

I believe the factory has been mixing the parts for some time. I have a 586-4 (4" Brazilian contract, 38 Special over-run) that was un-fired when I go it (but not anymore) and it has a forged hammer and MIM trigger. Interestingly enough the 6" Brazilian I have has both forged.

I keep hearing "you never know with S&W" and there's a strong element of truth in that statement. (smile)
