Can someone tell me about this revolver?

Now you guys have me all worked up!! Keep us posted!!! I don't even have a dog in the fight, but have to admit that I'm excited for you! This is one of those great deals that you just can't pass up even if you weren't interested in shooting at all!

Best Regards, Les

Looks like "Clark" to me....... to the OP..... just an FYI the gun is "Double action only"........and most likely very nice DOA!!!!!!

Wouldn't buy it for $500....not my thing...... at least not since the mid-80s......... but for $150 OH YA!!

Heck, yes. I couldn't read the barrel. It's a Clark and likely the best deal you'll see on a Clark in a long time to come. Congrats on that find.

Ok guys, so I picked it up right before shift. I did a quick look over of it and it locks up great and is in very good condition. I haven't had much time to play with it, as I'm on duty right now and we are very busy tonight. Btw the trigger pull is by far the best I've ever felt on a revolver. I'll keep you poster later on and hopefully have pics by tomorrow.

I seem to remember that recently one of the Clark Family had cancer and passed away not all that long ago. You are driving me nuts with that revolver. Please post pics as soon as possible. I saw one set up using a Colt Trooper III frame and internals. Guy wanted $750 for it which I thought was high at the time. No makers name either. Frank

Ok, a guy I work with was showing me pictures of revolvers he's acquired over the years. He showed me a picture of a S&W competition gun. I asked him if he would ever consider selling it. He said he'd sell it to me for $150. I asked him what model it was and at the time he could not tell me.

Well today he sent me a text and said it was a Model 10-5. He also said it has Black Custom MASCOT on the side of the barrel and 089 on the side of the barrel and 8799.

I already have a 64-1 but I think $150 is an awesome deal for a custom 10-5.

Can anyone elaborate on his firearm and the custom shop it came from?

$150 would have been a good price forty years ago..What a deal!

Surprised that no one, (including me) has posted the active link to Clark's website. They are still making conversions to customers guns, and can buy one already set up. Page not found - Clark Custom Guns. It says "page not found" but seems to work nevertheless.

Yours is a real bargain...and has features that are still in demand.

Best Regards, Les

Removal of the hammer spur is kind of a giveaway that it is DAO.

I see the OP's prospect has a "White Trigger Stop."
Actually, his is red, but it is a piece of rubber cemented to the rear of the trigger guard. Stroke the trigger all the way to the rubber, then refine sight picture and squeeeeze against the rubber for a near single action break.

I have 3 de-spurred revolvers, all of which retain the SA capability. That one may have been converted to DA only, but I know of many that were not.

I woke up later then usually but I will post some pics. The gun appears to be have been shoot a lot but it has been taken care of. The hammer is bobbed but I can still put it in single action. It also has a crane lock as well. The gun came with a case and two PPC style speedloaders. I don't think I'm going to sell this gun. The owner asked me if I ever sell it to let him know and he would buy it back. Out of respect I told him I would. The gun belonged to his grandfather and he doesn't really shoot it. That being said he practically gave me the gun. It's not like I paid $500 for it. I paid $150 which is unheard of and probably the best deal I will ever get on a gun.

I have one of these. My dad had it built in the 70's. He had a gunsmith over in Hampton, Va do it. Have to ask him who it was but it may have been Mario Ruffino. He traded it to me over 10 years ago for something I had that he wanted (I don't even remember what it was now). I've always loved the gun. Lockup is insanely tight and accurate. It would be the very last one to leave my collection.

WOW!! What the heck..this **** never happens to me..I would have pick that up in a heartbeat..
I swear you guys make this stuff up about prices just to drive us crazy, Its like a twilight zone episode..lol..

Lol, I promise I'm not making up the price on this.

I just got off after working night shift all weekend. I'm going to catch a couples hours of sleep then wake up and reload some rounds so I can take it to the range tomorrow.

I agree Clark made some very good PPC guns but, the best I ever owned and shot were by Bill Wilson of .45 fame.

What makes you say DAO. Mine is both. I have the parts anyway. I shoot button nose wad cutters in mine:).

Most guys shooting PPC shoot DAO. There are some that shoot SA at 50 yrds, but this is rare these days. The fact the hammer spur is bobbed is an indicator it's DAO. It's also pretty much impossible to set up the overtravel stop so that it works like it's supposed to in both DA and SA. Be careful when loading your ammo for these guns. They usually have a 1x10 inch twist which will increase pressures with normally mild loads. I have built more of these revolvers than I can count and have seen a number of them with split forcing cones due to shooting hot factory ammo in them. The ribs (usually an Aristocrat or old school Bo-Mar) usually has a 3 position front with a 50 yrd neck hold setting. There are a ton of good, reputable builders out there like Davis, Clark, Powers and Jarvis( and of course, me :)) and a good one will shoot well under 2 inches at 50 and I've seen a number of 1 inch guns. Good ammo is the key and we used to have an ammo test gun ( Mauser action with a 6" .38 barrel mounted on a 65 pound steel block) we found Winchester Match 148 grain hollow base wadcuuter to be the most consistent with the same load in Federal right behind it. For handloaders we found the Remington HBWC bullet with 2.7-3.0 grains of 231 or Unique seemed to be the ticket. The "X" ring on an official B-27 target is only 2 inches by 3 inches and at 50 yrds it looks really small.

For that price you have basically stolen it from the previous owner. Good for you. We all would love a deal like that anyday of the week.

Yep I would have landed on that like bees on honey.
Kind of amazing the guy sold it to you at that steal of a price. I don't understand that at all. A cheapo poor revolver will sell for that much.
Were you standing under some mistletoe because you sure got kissed.

I got a decent deal on a 52-1, once.

That Clark barreled gun would sure be fun with some mild wadcutter loads.

As of right now, I don't have any wadcutter hand loads. I do have 158gr LSWC's with 4.6 grains of CFE powder. Do you think I'd have an issue with using these rounds?

PPC is alive and well. I have been shooting it for over 5 yr now. The indoor season (5-7 matches) is just starting. I have won two guns over the years. A Springfield XD in 357 Sig and a S&W M&P Pro in 9mm. See this site, the guy who built my gun...

Thanks for the link....I'm not really into Cowboy Action shooting, but I have many guns that are used in it, and often thought of having some work done on them. I see your guy does Cowboy Action in addition to the PPC work.

Just thinking about PPC takes me back to the 70s, when I first got into police work, and competed in one of the first "Governor's Twenty" matches here in WV. Maybe the last one... Don't know if they survived very long after he left the Capital, but Jay Rockefeller was Gov back then, and I still have my picture with myself and another contestant posing with him after the match.
