Of course, I can't say it with the weight of S&W policy, but I'm confident your average 4506 will take a steady diet of +Ps longer than you can. Provided, of course, you change out the recoil spring regularly (it's the singlemost important thing you can do to prolong a gun's service life).

Remember this platform was chambered for the 10mm, a cartridge with significantly more !omph! than +P 45ACP.

Good lord I hope so, those things are built hell for stout. Like southpaw said, I doubt it is S&W Policy, I think everyone discourages +P stuff, but the 4506 is one boat anchor of a pistol, it should handle it without a hiccup I would think. I wouldn't hesitate to use that in my 4566

Easily. It's major parts are all forged steel.

I have more than 1,000 of the same load through each of two aluminum frame Colt Commanders and they are fine. The steel S&W .45's are stronger than my Commanders.

It's an excellent defense loading, by the way.

YES, it can handle it. My department issued the old 185 gr JHP +P from Remington. Its all we shot in the 4506's and 4566's. It was a handful in the 4563! Never a problem.

It is not S+W policy to say so but this gun can handle the +P loads.I will say NEVER +P+ LOADS.When my friend a retired Police Armorer and instructor was testing +P+ rounds for his department he blew up a S+W pistol.I am not a fan of tactical tupperware but the Glock handles a steady diet of +P+ without a hiccup and the duty rounds for that department are +P+.God Bless+ Merry Christmas.......Mike

Far as I know there are no SAAMI specs on any +P+ loading for any caliber. It's just loaded to a pressure beyond +P. How much so is up to the manufacturer.

Many years ago I used to load "Charlie's Cooked Up Reloads."

Whatever reloading manual stated as MAXIMUM I'd try to add 10% to, more if I had room for the powder, into the case!

The ONLY gun I ever destroyed was a Colt Detective Special.

My 4506 ATE my crazy reloads as fast as I could fire them off! Never a Problem.

The ONLY problem I ever had with my 4506 was caused by me using Aftermarket Magazines.

Enjoy that 4506!!!!!!!!

God Bless!!!
