I'm looking at different triggers for a K frame revolver and I see "Standard/Service", "Combat" and "Target" models. Would somebody please explain the differences to me please? Is there a difference in geometry, width? Thanks.

Width in the order you listed them from narrow to wide. Combat is smooth others are serrated.

Target triggers are generally about a half inch wide and allow a full trigger finger "pad" to have contact with the trigger. The others are narrower and, as noted, the combat triggers are a little wider than the "service" triggers. The "service triggers have vertical striations that encompass the full face of the tigger and are pretty well set to keep the trigger finger from slipping while engaged in the trigger pull. Not that the smooth triggers let the finger slip. In my opinion the combat trigger are the best ones on revolvers.

None of the triggers change the geometry of their function or the revolvers action. They just allow shooters to have some selection for activation of the action based on preference for a trigger width, but they do not change weight of pull nor "feel" of the trigger in shooting the revolver nor its "action." They do have function of giving the shooter a different way of "feel" in pulling the trigger with his/her trigger finger.

Hope this helps.

Very helpful guys, thanks. As a result, I just bought a target hammer and combat trigger for my 67-1, both forged, case colored . The stainless ones currently in there had an overzealous trigger job performed by a previous owner. The double action pull wasn't always reliable. Not only that, but these new cased colored ones should look fantastic! :D I won't say how I paid for the darn things though.

Standard/service is 0.265", Combat 0.400", and Target 0.500" wide. The parts you bought may drop in and function perfectly or need minor fitting. Enjoy!

Service trigger is nominally .265" wide and serrated.
Combat trigger is smooth and ranges in width between .300" and .400"
Target trigger is nominally .500" wide and serrated.

These are based on memory and could be off a bit.

Here is a variety of hammers...

Warpspasm, you made a good choice for your 67. It is unfortunate that some guns get "smithed" by folks that are not always familiar with the parts they are altering.... Having said that, as murphydog pointed out the parts may drop right in and function fine. I have put in trigger and hammer with no "fitting" but I felt lucky! Good luck. I think that the parts will drop in fine though.

Cost....., oh yes. Well, I would feel that it's just part of the way things are. At least you were able to find the parts. We all have spent more $$$ than we would like to sometimes in order to make something work. Have fun with that 67! They are great revolvers!

All my S&W revolvers, and one little Rossi 87 clone of the M60, have had standard-width triggers. I've had all of them, except a Model 15 I gave my son, ground smooth and radiused. It's just what feels best to me--I've never liked striated trigger faces, and my guns are not collectables but shooters. I do like the feel of the combat width, but I would want it radiused as well.

The Target Trigger really looks classy, and a few people like it for single action slow precision shooting. For double action shooting nothing is better than the combat trigger, or a standard trigger with the serrations ground out to smooth.

Why is my 64-3, .300", and smooth? Standard hammer. Trigger very good appearance, & no evidence of alteration. Bob
