Can you purchase a replacement lower from Smith & Wesson

I purchased a 15-22 about seven years ago and gave it to my brother who loved in New Youk State. He took it to a gun shop and they made it N.Y. legal and they epoxied the upper so the magazine (10 round) will not come out and have attempted everything and no luck. My brother has since passed away and the gun virtually unusable since you now have to break it open and load it from the top while the magazine is still seated.

I was wondering if S&W would sell a replacement upper or is this gun ready for the scrap pile?

Since the lower receiver with the magazine well is the part that has the serial number then I really doubt S&W would sell you just the lower - unless you want to purchase an entirely new gun. I've also heard that they don't really sell ANY factory parts at all - all must go back to the factory for service for anything beyond what you can easily do/replace yourself (like triggers, etc.).

While there are plenty of different parts available, the only ones I've seen have been aftermarket or third-party and not directly from S&W, and NO lower receivers at all - but I haven't really looked for many as I don't really need anything for mine yet.

The Lower Receiver is the “firearm” and must go through a FFL dealer transfer. Assuming you can find one it would be a lot easier and probably just as cheap to buy a stripped lower receiver, take as many parts as you can from the S&W lower and reinstall them in the new lower.

I think you may need a new roll pin for the bolt catch and maybe the magazine release since you said the magazine is epoxied otherwise you can reuse all of the other parts.

Carburetor cleaner will soften epoxy.

Acetone will clean up epoxy, but you have to soak it.

Call S&W, tell them the story. They might do it for cost. You never know till you ask. And asking is free. But till then, I'd probably try the solvent first, as mentioned above.

Do you have a 3d printer? There are S&W M&P 15-22 lower files floating around.
