Can you shoot 32 H&R Magnum +P in…..

Gotta always remember, some “old” guns may chamber a cartridge just fine, yet not be ok with a load with higher pressures than originally designed for it. (Think 45/70 and Trapdoor Springfield rifles-a modern load that works fine in a Marlin or Henry will grenade a trapdoor). IMHO there “Should” be a “standard” +P designation (X percent over normal pressure). You take an ancient firearm designed and built for low pressure rounds and drop an over pressure round in them you are asking for trouble. I’m sure the ammo companies load at lower than max because of our litigious society. You note than modern .357’s and .38nSpers are a fair bit milder than loads put out in the 1930’s.

I purchased that finely made model.
My plan is to use the Tarass 327 snub of the same lenth barrel to develop loads.
For immediate use I decided Hornaday 80gr xtp would be the ticket for carry.

I have no problem with "standards" but do in the case of what SAAMI bases it on...the lowest what they feel common denominator...

The .38 Special is a perfect example. The pressure ratings for both standard and +P are based on any .38 ever made...things have changed in the over 100 years that the .38 has been out.

Actually, the .38+P rating was intended to take improvements in metallurgy-and the use of heat treatment-since 1899 into account. Now the 9mm +P rating was pretty much an admission that the 9mm had been underloaded in the US up until that time. All to protect us from those "junk foreign guns".

Over decades, I've seen several boutique ammo companies-some with multimillion dollar annual sales-go under because of intentionally hot loads that destroyed guns. Both SAAMi and CIP have pressures they expect ammo to be limited to, but have higher DO NOT EXCEED levels. Some people like to play in the area between those figures. No thanks.
