I have seen several post here that have discouraged others from buying the Turkish pistol, and have had one on back order at my LGS for quite some time

it finally arrived this week and I made my first range trip this afternoon with it.

I like the gun!, using Russian silver bear 115 grain ammo ( shooting it from a bench, @15 yards onto a 12" shoot and see paper target) holding at 6 o'clock on the orange the first 6 rounds out of it were touching into one ragged hole, it impacted right at point of aim .

so the next 12 were shot off hand at a semi rapid pace from a setting position, at the same range and all impacted in the orange.

It out shot both a ruger American and a Glock 17l for group size from the bench with both my self and my son shooting it.

trigger was great

I have read a lot of statements about the decocker on this weapon and I for one found no reason not to like it, it function properly and only required a short 1/2" slide movement, if that much, to reactivate the striker.

so I will feel better knowing it is loaded with one in the pipe and a full mag and that it will have a dead trigger until activated while laying in the drawer by my bed

I have no ideal how long it will last but my thoughts are, that it will be as durable as the other polymer pistols I have seen, the ruger is by far the beefier of the three guns with a heavier barrels and stouter trigger assembly group, the Glock 17 is world renown for its durability and the 17L is a 6 inch gun with a 3 lb. trigger

all three guns ran flawlessly and at the end I was shooting spent 12 gauge shotgun shells at varying distance 5-20 yards with the canik and having no trouble keeping the empty shells hopping.

so I am for one impressed with the pistol
canik TP9SA cost $330, Ruger American $450, Glock 17l $750 and up

if you are on a budget the canik will not leave you under gunned and if the decocker is a big issue with you they are making the same gun without the decocker as a TP9SF model.

just an old gun nut that likes guns that shoot where you point them

I purchased a TP9 sa\da 2 1/2 years ago when they first arrived on the scene. What an awesome pistol! I couldn't pass up the deal at the time - came with the interchangeable back straps, holster and two 18 round mags for $275 shipped to my FFL. I liked it so much I installed night sights on this pistol. If I remember correctly the night sites I purchased were for a walther P99 model either from meprolight or truglo and I had to do a little filing on the rear sight to make it fit.

Never had an issue with this pistol using various target ammo (115 thru 147 grain) and I still have it.

Good luck with it.

I wouldn't say I discourage it but for me it's either proven or its not. If it's not.....no matter how cheap that money can and will go to ammo

The Canik TP9 should have been my first 9mm semi. Instead, I purchased a $500 M&P9 FS that was never accurate for me and took over 400rds to break in. A year later and a little wiser, I added a Canik P-100, C-100 and L-120. All three have been exceptionally accurate and reliable from day one.

It is clone of the Walther P99 and SW99 well proven. IMHO much better design than anything S&W is marketing at this time.

Have a friend with a boat anchor Jimenez 9mm that works...occasionally. Told him to sell it and get one of these Caniks.

Maybe but a clone doesn't mean anything. I can make a Glock clone but I doubt anyone would want to carry it. I doubt I would. At that price that's 1500 - 2000 rounds of ammo I would rather have

they have a new race gun that looks impressive and is guaranteed to shoot 2.5" groups at 25yds for 60000 rounds, with an SRP of $549.

Glad to see this topic. I just bought a TP9SA in Desert Tan and am really impressed with the build quality on it. Nice heft, good accessories. Can't wait to take it to the range. The main gripe I see is about the decocker being unnecessary but this is a range gun for me so I don't care about that and will use it for takedown anyway. It really feels like a heavier clone of my Walther PPQ, honestly.

The guy I work for bought a TON of these sight unseen and we sold them as a bargain basement alternative for folks. Almost every one came back for jamming problems. When I looked inside them, they were all well fitted and machine work on them was great. The problem was all of the magazines were terrible and I couldn't make them work (And I have fitted a lot of Ruby type magazines in the past). Apparently they still have some problems.

That's odd on the jamming. I have 6 factory mags total and it never jammed on me. I thought the mags where made by Mec-gar a very reputable company - but I may have that confused with another pistol.

Apparently the mags I worked with were the first lot the factory bought or produced. I know that none of them were Mec-Gars. I would trust Mec-Gars with my life.

Was this about a year ago? I thought I saw a few posts while out and about on google with people saying the mags were rubbing internally on the slide on the early models?

To Vegetaman - I was looking at your pic and noticed that your mags don't look like mine. So I pulled a tp9 mag and it has a different base and is stamped "Mec-gar". Before you consider ditching the gun i'd try buying some of the mec-gar mags.

Hope that works!
Good luck.

I am now at over 500 rounds thru mine with the 2 factory meg-gar mags that came with it, my only jam was 1 limp wrist failure that I was trying to make happen, accuracy is superb
