Can't decide.

My Taurus (hey, its lasted this long) 608ss4 is such a pain to clean since it has gas ports up front. I had it worked over and machined for moon clips years ago. Thing is a tank but I'd like something with a smaller nose on it.

I've carried the 608 more than once, and its not the cylinder but the grip and barrel that are what becomes difficult to conceal.

Also, not a big fan of the grips on it.

So, I am going to drop some $$$ on either the night guard 327 or the 627 2 5/8" (aka "bloodwork") revolvers.

Thoughts?

I have a 327NG and had two of the original 627 UDRs. The 627 is a really nice gun but for a carry and general use piece the NG is hard to beat. The weight, fixed Extreme Duty rear sight, and XS Big Dot tritium front sight combine to make a very nice package. Mine is quite accurate and the action, while not nearly as slick as the PC gun, is acceptable as is, though mine is going in for a trigger job in the near future (I like them smooooth). It's substantially lighter than the 627 but at 32oz loaded with eight 135gr mags it still has a enough weight to be manageable with magnum rounds.

Like I said, I had two 627s, I have a 327NG, it's a much better fit for my needs. If you don't mind the weight, want adjustable sights, and prefer the look of the 627, buy it, you won't be disappointed. On the other hand, if you want a more carry friendly gun you should strongly consider the NG.

My biggest issue with the 608ss4 has been barrel length and size of grips, so , I am leaning towards the 627... we'll see which one comes up for sale first!

I had a 2 5/8" PC627 UDR from the early remake (4/10). By 10/10, I decided I liked the moonclip reloading capability, so I went to buy a 327 Night Guard as a bedside gun. I left the lgs with another new PC627 UDR, literally because the 327NG is not moonclip ready. It's extra half pound of mass is no problem in my use, either. Another factor now to consider - the Night Guard line is not in the 2012 S&W Catalog. You may have trouble finding a new 327NG. Price-wise, they are close, too - my second PC627 UDR was less than the cost of a Happy Meal more than the 327NG. I have since decided the fluorescent orange ramp is easier to pick-up in low light than the Night Guard's tritium Night Sight, as well. Of course, that's my opinion... worth what it cost!

With an IWB holster the 327 PC is like a J-frame on steroids!

It weights 21oz. With the Scandium frame it is barely more noticeable than a J-frame

If you plan on carry IWB or OWB the 627 (bloodwork) is a bit heavy.

The 327 Night Guard will not accept moon clips. (disadvantage).

327 PC is light; just over a J-frame carry for IWB

Hi Sorry for the delayed weigh in. Personally I went for the 627. I have a good friend a 327 but found it a bit to light and crisp for loads i'd like to carry. I find the fed.158 gr hydrashoks are formidable out of the snubbie and the 627 is beefy enough to deal with the recoil easily and stay on target. My first 8 are in moon clip so a reload is smooth and easy with my five star speedloader. One does have to go through some searching for holsters and hiding but it's worth it IMO, carry what you shoot.
