Can't Decide. Model 317 or LCP .22

Finally was able to take my new LCR 22 out for a test run. I usually use CCI mini mags in my M&P 22 and 15-22 with zero issues. I took the mini mags and some Federal lead bulk stuff I had laying around.

I fired 4 cylinders of the Mini mags and 4 cylinders of the Federal lead. Results:

Overall, the LCR had no mis-fires and no binding issues. Very accurate and smooth trigger pull. Little on the heavy side but I was expecting that. I have no regrets...great little shooter.

First cylinder of the mini mags had no issue extracting. Second, third, and fourth cylinders had extraction problems...getting worse after each cylinder. The casing expands in the cylinder making it very difficult to extract.

With having those issues I ran four cylinders of the the Federal bulk lead through it...no issues at all. No mis-fires...no binding...and no issues with extracting. Very clean...very smooth.

I was disappointed the mini mags performed so poorly. I know the 22 is a finicky round but CCI is suppose to be top of the line. I went out and purchase another 2000 rounds of the Federal 325 count lead bulk.

I have had my LCR22 for around a year now. Mine shoots just fine. It will run Federal Bulk Pak all day. My brother also has an LCR22, and his runs fine also.

Carry Ammo
I keep Stingers in it. They fire all 8 in my gun without issues. Extraction is sticky, you have to wrap the rod hard.
Velocitors will lock up the cylinder on the first shot.

So far I have not tested any other ammo in it.

Holster
I ordered a Lobo Enhanced Pancake holster for mine, with optional inner hammer shield. I requested that Ray NOT BONE the Cylinder Flutes, as he would have a 5 shot Model as his fitting mold.

Speed Strips
You can carry a reload in Tuff Products Model 1022 Quick Strips. The secret is to leave a round out between pairs for cylinder clearance. Loaded in this manner it will only hold 7 rounds, however you can do a speed reload with it.

I also have a couple Speed Beez Speed Loaders for mine. I sometimes shoot mine in BUG Division in our bimonthly Outlaw IDPA Match. So far I am still working on a speed loader holder.
NOTE: This is a good set up with the loading Block. You can get it as a set with 2 speed loaders and a Block. The block makes reloading the speedloader a snap.

Thanks Bob for the information. The CCI fired great, again just tough extraction. A couple times the ejector slipped over the round and left a casing in the cylinder. I had to use a cleaning rod and push it through. None of those issues with the Federal.

Just wondering...do you think using Federal lead is ok. Some folks are picky about lead ammo.

Also, what do you think of the 5 start speed loaders. They seem a little pricy but not much out there for 22s. I'll check out the Speed Beez too.

I had my LCR-22 out for an extended range session recently with family. The LCR was pretty much the star of the show, especially for the women. We polished off about half a box of Federal bulk pack with no issues. I also launched several cylinders of CCI Stingers, Velocitors, Mini Mags, etc and did not have extraction problems. I do like the stainless steel cylinder. I was happy to see the LCR getting heavy use without any issues. It's a good design.

But if the Ruger is as light and handles all ammo with no extraction problems that's what I'd buy.

I like the weight of my 43C and it shoots and extracts CCI Velociters without any problems. However the Remington Yellow Jackets I tried were sticky to extract. I think Federal Bulk Pack extracted fine, but I wanted the fastest 40 grn solid I could find. Maybe I just lucked out with the Velociters?

I just looked and Ruger states the LCR 22 is 14.9 OZ!
Why bother? I'd buy a .38 for that weight, or a S&W Pre 34 if I wanted a nice small .22.

However I've never been happy with my ability to shoot S&W J-Fame .22's compared to their K-Frames.

I bought the 43C as a New York reload. Your needs may be different.

If you want a shooter .22 buy a K22.

I was lucky eough to pick up a 317 (unfortunately w/the lock) for just over $350. It shoots great but it does get increasingly difficult to punch out the casings after about 50 rounds.

While there is no comparason to my Model 18 it is a great little carry piece when and if my wife decides to CCW.

but couldn't find one[I know, too big for her purse]
Looked hard at the 317 [felt like a toy..weird] and
the LCR, 43, 617.......
ordered a 63-5......sweet !
It did go back to Smith the first week....front sight
rocked back and forth, screws were buggered,
spit lead really bad.....
Nine days ....to the house....had it back
good as gold !!!!!

Just wonder why some LCR 22 owners have extraction problems with CCI and some don't. Is it a cylinder issue or ammo issue. Is it a design flaw or defect? Mine shoots all rounds flawlessly but CCI just seems to give me extraction fits. At this point I will only shoot Federal lead bulk.
