Can't decide to sell or keep my 27-2's

Well, you could sell them and join the group of us who have sold a 27-2 and regretted it for years. I'm a member of that club. I have finally re-acquired a 3 1/2" and 4" - never to make the same mistake twice!

I'd keep the Smiths. Try and get the money for the Colt another way. Maybe see if you can pay it out. But don't sell those model 27's.

Keep the 3.5" 27-2 above the others.

If you have to have the Python, sell the 6" and the 4" 27s. Keep the Python and the 3.5" 27-2, and you will have the iconic S&W .357, and the iconic COLT .357.

Then you can get a replacement 4" 27-2, and then a replacement 6"er as well.

The Model 27 is an excellent gun. I moved on from mine as I felt it was too pretty to shoot. I traded it and some cash for a custom 1911 that is a very high end gun. I have not regretted moving on from the 27-2, probably because I have a smooth as glass 4" 28-2 that is so much fun to shoot.

"(in retrospect, can the class now say "Fool")"

FOOL!!!!

I saw my first Trooper MK III back in college. Another student that I knew had one. Shot it, didn't like it. Went I went to the sheriff's department; my LT had one that I cleaned and repaired. Liked them even less after that. Those sinitered mrtal parts break. Not good on a duty or defense gun.

He later bought a M19.

Put the python on layaway.

The prices on the m27/28 haven't topped off yet. I'd never part with mine anyway.

Never, ever sell. I been replacing the three guns I traded in. The last one I need is my python back.

Put me in the "keep the 27s" catagory as well . No way I would let those 27-2s go . They are the most sought after Smiths , and are only at the begining of their upswing in value .
On the other hand, I can understand your desire for the Python .
I picked up a royal blue 6" in mint cond. a few weeks back .
I ended up trading a nickel 4" model 19 , a blue 4" model 19, a
blue model 10 and a nickel model 10 and threw $ 1,500 on top of that
but I walked out with a real nice Python . Im in it around $ 2,900 so it worked out ok . The nickel guns both had some wear, and the blue 19 had been re-blued poorly ..So, the moral to the story is ..if you have lesser guns in your collection , sell those off, and keep the 27s .
The 27-2 is fast becoming a "blue chip" collectable and you are going to want to hold on tight to those .

I do not own a Python. Your 3 1/2" is one everyone seems to want. The 4" is harder to come by, but the blue ones are really hard to come by in my opinion. I personally like the six inch gun. Shot Model 14 6" most of my life, so I like the 6" blue 27-2.
I do not own a Python. I would not sell minty 27-2 Models for one, either.
Work a deal with him or get the money elsewhere. Seller's remorse is tough when you see the 3 1/2" going for $1500 and up on the auction sites. Need the money? Different story. Good luck with your decision.

Pretty cool to see such a passionate following for the model 27-2. I wish I was around back when colt and smith were making such fine guns. I feel a lot of pride in what these American manufacturers created. I'm 27 and listening to what you guys and hickok45, who I admire greatly was saying about them really made me appreciate what I have. Great advice from everyone and it's much appreciated. So today I decided to take them out and shoot them and there's definitely something special about these guns. The more I looked at them and thought about it, the less I felt like I had to have the Python. I realize I appreciate the aesthetics and lines of the smiths more than the Python, they're just elegant where I feel the pythons just a bit much in the styling department. I actually think I want another 3.5 inch but in a nickel finish lol! Plus I'm having a kid in a few months and maybe nows not the best time to be spending $2500. I think these smiths would make a fine present for my little girl when she's ready. Now I just need to figure out the best way to clean my nickel gun because I read I shouldnt be using ballistol anymore.

Any Smith's I've sold, I've regretted soon after. :( Some I've really regretted.

No more!

I'm now a Smith buyer...especially "N" frames, "K and L" frames, add to that "J" frames, don't forget.... you get the idea.

I sold my 5" recently and really regret it....dumb ***

I GOT IT BACK!!! The gentleman I sold it to in a weak moment heard I was thinking of selling my pair of Sigs 226 9mm consecutive serial #s.....I hemmed and hawed and then he said if you sell them to me I will sell you back your 27-2 same $!

SOLD!!!

Hmmm....the consensus on the Smith & Wesson Forum is to keep the Smith & Wessons........well, put me in that camp as well!

I had a nice shooter grade 4" Python a couple years back and just couldn't warm up to it. Nframe Smiths however........well, I've got a couple!

Keep the 27s! I've often called the .357 Magnum / Model 27 the crown jewel of the Smith & Wesson lineup. The 27-2, the last of the pinned and recessed guns, was probably the end of the line as far as quality is concerned. They will only increase in value.

I speak as the owner of a really nice nickel 4" Python. While I would never part with it either and the prices on the premium "snake" Colts have escalated astronomically, I'm hanging on to those beautiful 27s. In addition to the ones picture below, I also have a new-in-the-presentation-box 6.5" nickeled 27-2. I don't think you can ever have too many - they are the gold standard if you are ever forced to sell or need to trade.

Having bought and sold Winchesters, Smith's and some Colts for many, many years at gun shows and were I to do it over again, I'd keep every Smith revolver. The Python's are classic American guns for sure but IMO not nearly as desirable to so many people as Smith and Wesson, a true American Classic for 150 years. Now, if we were talking Colt SAA, the old west six guns so to speak, that would be different, totally different. Keep those 27's and just buy the Colt if possible...Good Luck!
