Can't decide to sell or keep my 27-2's

I do not own a Python. Your 3 1/2" is one everyone seems to want. The 4" is harder to come by, but the blue ones are really hard to come by in my opinion. I personally like the six inch gun. Shot Model 14 6" most of my life, so I like the 6" blue 27-2.
I do not own a Python. I would not sell minty 27-2 Models for one, either.
Work a deal with him or get the money elsewhere. Seller's remorse is tough when you see the 3 1/2" going for $1500 and up on the auction sites. Need the money? Different story. Good luck with your decision.

I have never cared for the Python's vent rib, lug or grips. I personally wouldn't trade a 100% Python for a 60% 27-2 even up.

Pretty cool to see such a passionate following for the model 27-2. I wish I was around back when colt and smith were making such fine guns. I feel a lot of pride in what these American manufacturers created. I'm 27 and listening to what you guys and hickok45, who I admire greatly was saying about them really made me appreciate what I have. Great advice from everyone and it's much appreciated. So today I decided to take them out and shoot them and there's definitely something special about these guns. The more I looked at them and thought about it, the less I felt like I had to have the Python. I realize I appreciate the aesthetics and lines of the smiths more than the Python, they're just elegant where I feel the pythons just a bit much in the styling department. I actually think I want another 3.5 inch but in a nickel finish lol! Plus I'm having a kid in a few months and maybe nows not the best time to be spending $2500. I think these smiths would make a fine present for my little girl when she's ready. Now I just need to figure out the best way to clean my nickel gun because I read I shouldnt be using ballistol anymore.

I GOT IT BACK!!! The gentleman I sold it to in a weak moment heard I was thinking of selling my pair of Sigs 226 9mm consecutive serial #s.....I hemmed and hawed and then he said if you sell them to me I will sell you back your 27-2 same $!

Hmmm....the consensus on the Smith & Wesson Forum is to keep the Smith & Wessons........well, put me in that camp as well!

I had a nice shooter grade 4" Python a couple years back and just couldn't warm up to it. Nframe Smiths however........well, I've got a couple!

Keep the 27s! I've often called the .357 Magnum / Model 27 the crown jewel of the Smith & Wesson lineup. The 27-2, the last of the pinned and recessed guns, was probably the end of the line as far as quality is concerned. They will only increase in value.

I speak as the owner of a really nice nickel 4" Python. While I would never part with it either and the prices on the premium "snake" Colts have escalated astronomically, I'm hanging on to those beautiful 27s. In addition to the ones picture below, I also have a new-in-the-presentation-box 6.5" nickeled 27-2. I don't think you can ever have too many - they are the gold standard if you are ever forced to sell or need to trade.

Having bought and sold Winchesters, Smith's and some Colts for many, many years at gun shows and were I to do it over again, I'd keep every Smith revolver. The Python's are classic American guns for sure but IMO not nearly as desirable to so many people as Smith and Wesson, a true American Classic for 150 years. Now, if we were talking Colt SAA, the old west six guns so to speak, that would be different, totally different. Keep those 27's and just buy the Colt if possible...Good Luck!

I have a really nice 27-2 6" that I would never sell. I loved shooting it but in respect of it's beautiful finish, I opted to pick up a 4" 686 as a shooter. Satisfies my desire to shoot 38 special and 357 mag, without any risk to my 27. Never sell any toys if you can avoid it, especially to acquire other toys, sellers remorse is not good. You will always pay more to replace them. The Python is a good buy at $2,500.

I had a near mint Python once in its original box. When I took the sidelplate of it and saw the complexity of its internals I sold it

FWIW,there is currently a mint 6" nickel Python in the original box on GB with a current bid of $3500+ with 12 days left in the auction. Do the math. Just sayin'.

It is your decision! By the way, Welcome to the FORUM! I mull over things before I do them. I had a 1962 4" Trooper. Trigger was fantastic. That was about it for me. (not a Python) I don't even own a 27. Could not find 1 when I was looking. (for quite a while) So, I ended up with a 28, 6" no dash. I wouldn't sell even it for a Colt. I am not an expert on anything, but if you let go of 27's, would you be able to afford and replace them later? Bob
