Carried my 10-5 for the 1st time

I had my 10-5 2" locked up as a safe queen, but I decided to try it out as a CCW. I'm a leather guy, but my Dad gave me one of those IWB Uncle Mike's holsters and I tried it last night. The result: I hardly noticed it was there! Anyway, this carries a lot better then my semi autos and with the buffalo bore +p's, it's got a punch too.

I would never have guessed this would be a viable CCW in this day and age. It was always more of a "curio" to me of what was used in a bygone era. Geez.. was I wrong!

I'm a power junkie, but consider a 4" model 10 a very useable full size gun and would not feel undergunned with one if it were loaded with a good proven hollowpoint such as Corbon 110 gr. +P JHP, DPX, Speer SB Gold Dots, or the FBI load. Jim Cirillo won his first gunfight with a 4" model 10 loaded with Super-Vel HPs.

A K frame is not only completely viable, but lots of us think it's about the best compromise going.

I've tried many different guns for CCW, but I keep coming back to a basic 4" K-frame, usually a Combat Masterpiece. I'm comfortable with the FBI type load.

I haven't yet found anything to be quite as practical and comfortable for all day carry, in all circumstances--standing, walking, sitting in a car, cleaning out the garage, etc.

It is completely reliable; as accurate as you are; has a better DA trigger than a J-frame, a better SA trigger than virtually any automatic, and is just extremely "shootable."

I have never found an auto that I'm happy with long term for CCW. They either print too much, or have an uncomfortable shape, or have sharp edges, or something else that bugs me.

So please, don't hesitate to carry that K frame.

I have a M15 4," and a M637 Snubbie. I keep both loaded with Federal Hydroshoks. But I've never heard of the "FBI Load." What is that?

I've found that all my revolvers carry/conceal better than semi's. There is a pristine Model 10 2 inch at the gun shop right now. I may pick it up tomorrow.

I started carrying my 1967 K frame M10-5 4" today. I used my M15-3 2" holster and it worked ok but the barrel stuck out the end obviously. I have a Strong's Pancake K frame 4" on the way and that will be the one I use and will be looking for a possible IWB for my M10 4".

I am also hoping I can score a NY1 like the one Ladder has pictured above in the very near future. I was going to get one a few weeks ago when a M29-4 8 and 3/8th came available. I can't carry it but I sure wanted it.

I had previously carried only J frames until finally getting a 2" K frame. Using appendix IWB carry it is nearly as easy as a J frame. Like most folks I shoot the larger K frame better, too. Here's one of my two, M64 2" guns.

Too bad more of the "quality at a reasonable price" holster makers have forgotten how many of us dinosaurs still like to carry a 4" revolver, and in .38 to boot.
