Carry piece grips?

Hi all. Just about got my winter carry piece ready. S&W model 19 Carry Comp with big dots, bobbed hammer and pachmayr compact grips. This is my FAVORITE pistol I own. While the grips are fine, I'd like something a little nicer. I have pretty small hands for a guy (thanks mom) so I can get all my fingers on a boot style grip. I'd like some custom k-frame boot grips (stag or wood) with NO finger grooves. Have you guys got any recommendations on something like this? Preferably somewhere I can order from and not have to wait a year

Just off the top of my head, Ahrends was the only grip maker I can think of that made a wood non-finger-groove boot grip, but I don't think they're accepting orders. I think they've gone out of business, IIRC. You might be able to find some for sale online somewhere, like eBay, maybe.

I think just about every maker of boot grips makes them with finger grooves.

Altamont may have some options.

Culina Grips may be able to accomodate you.

I'm not sure, but I think Craig Spegel might be able to make a set of his boot grips without finger grooves, but I could be wrong. Also, his wait list is over 1 year, I think. Maybe 2 years by now.

They're not wood, but the plastic PGS Hideout Grips are available without finger grooves. I had a set for my K-frames, and I actually liked them better than the Ahrends grips I had. Very trim, but feels good in the hand. A good choice for smaller hands. And they're only about $20 from Brownells or you can order direct from the manufacturer if Brownells is out of stock. Something to consider, maybe as a temporary option 'til you can get something nicer?

Edit: I just checked Badger Grips, out of curiosity. It looks like you can get wood boot grips for the K-frame round butt and have them custom-ordered without finger grooves for an extra fee. Maybe worth checking out.

Just an idea... get yersef a set of Pachmayr Renegades off fleabay and sand the grooves off, refin. Cheap and quick, don't look bad at all.

Alatamont, Eagle and several other makers make boot grips with finger grooves or shallow grooves.

Short of a custom made set, buy one of these and alter them.
Since many of these boot grips are made of phenolic impregnated wood Micarta, it's easy to just sand off the finger grooves, sand with finer sand paper, then polish them to the gloss you like with a metal polish.

They have non-finger groove grips that are close to boot type.

VZ grips are excellent for a good durable, "grippy texture.
Again, the finger grooves can be filed and sanded off.

That fine handgun deserves some Spegels. Call him up, talk to him about what you want, and get on the wait list. Then if you absolutely have to change from the Pachmayr Compac Pro's (which I actually like), take a look at the VZ grips. And in a year or so when the Spegel grips come in you'll have exactly what you want, if you decide not to use them you can easily sell them for a profit.

I reached my State of Grip Nirvana on eBay with sets of grips From some of the Thailand vendors. The round butt J frame set on the 60-4 was near perfect as shipped, but the square butt K frame Grips came to Me before the wood had fully cured I guess. They shrank away from the grip frame. Anyway, I like the finger grooves, but there should be enough wood there if you want to remove them.

I do realize that this is nothing like what you are looking for. They are cheap plastic and look sort of shabby but I keep going back to them.

Today's conventional wisdom casts a dim view of carrying a revolver without some sort of holster. I guess I'm a throwback. The convenience of the Barami Hip Grip is legendary. Match it up with a Tyler T grip adapter and....uh....I mean, revolvers are traditional...right?

I've wasted a lot of money on fancy holsters and nice grips. For the price of a couple of beers you can check these out. They are available on e-Bay for K frame and J frame.

The right grip panel has a "clip" that goes over your belt when you carry IWB.

It's just an old trick but it still works and works well.

I would look for factory RB Target stocks, which were made both checkered and smooth. A good size for smaller hands.

I like and prefer magna stocks and a grip adapter on all of my revolvers.

Ditto....... plus if you want they can be cut down to Boot grip length until your Spegel's arrive!

I strongly recommend you contact Craig Spegel and be patient...it will be worth the wait. I just got a set of grips from him for a High Power and they're gorgeous. He's not only talented, but ethical, honest, and one of the nicest people you will ever deal with, in or out of the gun business.

If you want something now, I would take a look at Hogue. They don't make a boot-style grip without finger grooves, but their Bantam grip has only one groove, and looks very nice on a K-Frame.

I've always preferred the Factory wooden grips (the vintage ones) along with a Tyler T Grip. You can also look for a pair of the now discontinued Uncle Mike's Grips, which in my opinion are superior to Pachmeyer's.
