Carrying at the gym

Whenever my wife drags me to the gym, I carry it in a small gym bag that has my clothes in it. I keep the bag beside whatever equipment I'm on, always in sight.
If that works for you, that's great. But if I saw someone carrying a bag around while they work out, I'd think they must have something valuable in it.

Get a Tuffy Lock box fits under the passenger seat and has a circular lock that's is almost impossible to pick the lock .. Mine is bolted to the seat bolts and is very secure .. not a box with a cable that can be easily cut with wire cutters ..

Not gonna buy a pocket gun anytime soon. Sent from my Moto G (5S) Plus using Tapatalk

I realized a long time ago that it would be better to have a small gun on me than no gun at all. I bought a P3AT for when I needed to be extra discreet. I was working as a salesman and didn't want to print in customers offices. I still always pocket carry it regardless of my CCW, especially at home.

I put it in the bento box if riding my bike and while I don't go to the gym, I use it with a bellyband and position the gun right in front of my hip bone when running.

My thought is that it's better to have this gun on me than my subcompact locked in the car.

Well, they see my towel hanging out of it, ear phone cord, my keys dangling, etc. Plus I don't really go from machine to machine. Usually just one, to pacify my wife. :)

So?....I have mine always at my feet with my towel sticking out. It is never more than a foot or two away from the front of me. Wallet and keys in there too. A lot of folks have their bags with them in my gym - not unusual to see.

I don't have a wife dragging me to the gym but when I did go to the gym (in 2010 I had a membership but the gym is long gone now) I went several times a week and I carried a small gym bag and kept everything in next to the equipment I was using. On occasion I used a locker but I preferred keeping my gun near me.

I didn't figure anyone was gonna grab the silly bag but there was always a possibility but one yell would have a lot of folks glaring at the perp so I didn't worry about it.

Not going to the gym makes life easier, if not healthier..... :D

Great job going to the gym. Good health and fitness does a boatload more to keep you alive and healthy than carrying a gun. But they are certainly not mutually exclusive.

My gym bans guns. They dont even want off duty cops carrying. I reserve my preaching to the choir comment on that. Or what I do or do not do.

But nobody is banning these guns. Armed and not dangerous.

I go to the gyn unarmed, at night even. Then again I dont live in a **** hole area. If I really felt the need, I would lock it in the car but I dont.

Everyone should strive to be more like you Fred :rolleyes:

Not a fan of leaving in the car. Aside from leaving it at home, that may be the only other option, though

Just lock it in the car, if you are in a decent area the odds of your car being broken into is quite low. If the cost is a concern then consider the Ruger EC9S, for about 250 bucks you get an outstanding pocket pistol. BTW, I have two of the LC9S pistols and have probably put at least 2000 rounds downrange without one single failure of any description. The difference between the cheaper EC9S and more expensive LC9S is the sights, on the EC9S they are cast as part of the slide and the LC9S has dovetail mounted sights.

I'll also note that I do some street running every day and due to concerns about the number of Pit Bulls and Rottweilers in the area I always have my LC9S in my right front pocket. Works just fine in the Carhartt blue jeans I run in.

My gym bans guns. I used to leave it in the car but now I just leave it at home. I don't feel unsafe, going about unarmed in that area.

I have a safe in my car. My car is a SUV. Very nice, clean, but, 13 years old. I don't think anyone is bothering with 13 year old SUVs. Besides about the only place I use the safe is in a good safe area well off the beaten path. One of the very few places I would go unarmed.

... Whatever you decide, do NOT lock it in a locker. There are some people who go to gyms and rec centers specifically to break into lockers just to see what they can steal: wallets, phones, watches, jewelry, and, yes, firearms. Most lockers at commercial gyms can be popped open with a screw driver. ... But, like anywhere you go, keep your head up in the parking lot.
The last is why I bring my piece into the gym. I don't want to get mugged because I'm unarmed, on the way back to my car where my gun is locked up. I hear ya on the locker business, but in my gym the locker isn't in the shower room or some other out of the way place. If it were, I'd be locking it in the car. As it is, I can see the bank of lockers just 10-50 feet from where I'm exercising, as can the many other people in the place who use the lockers too.

Impressive guns! How many rounds...uhhh... reps you got through those guns? Unlike my EDC, yours get better with a high round count. ;););)

I carry mine in my concealed carry vest and when I'm changing I take it off and lock it in a locker with the rest of my clothes and gym bag using my personal combination lock. There is an attendant on duty in the locker room and it is very busy so the chances of anyone prying open a locker to break into it is lower than the probability of a car in the parking lot getting broken into.

I either leave it in the car or in the locker (which is my lock); no big deal as I do not feel the need to actually have it on me while working out.

The Anytime Fitness that I go to has a wide open floor plan. I leave my G19 in my back pack.

I would stow my firearm in my car, in an appropriate gun safe.

I mainly used the on-base gym. Firearms not allowed (except in Iraq).

Now, we have our own gym.

If you seriously think you need to carry at the gym... join a different gym.

Some folks live in sub-par areas. More important, valid, and consistent with proper personal defense mindset - you can't make an appointment for an emergency. I carry pretty much all the time and don't go where I can't be armed. I know I am not the only person armed there, and some of the staff have access to a lockbox with a gun in it by the owner's preference.

Remember that the only reason to carry a pistol is that you have no reason to expect a problem requiring a gun. If you have reason to expect a problem and can't be somewhere else, take a rifle.
