I purchased this nickel, long barrel, 27-2 from a much older friend of mine. He was looking for cash for another project. He purchased in 1976 and said he shot four cylinders (24 rounds) thru it and cleaned it and put it up. I cleaned it very well on purchase and only managed a small amount of grey on a barrel patch after a lot of scrubbing using a bore cleaner recommended for nickel. I am into single actions mostly and want to trade this one locally. I looked on GB and prices were not consistent. The package is in great condition. I would say 98%. My guess on value is $700 to $900 cash trade give of take? You comments and input will be appreciated.

Yes it is the one in the picture. Hard to take pic because of the nickel reflection. Tnx for the input.

I would also say it would bring more, breaking $1000 pretty easy. Much more desirable than any M29. The market is currently flooded with long barrel nickel M29's. I know of 5 in this area that have been just sitting for many months all priced around $1200. Yup, that's why they are just sitting and not selling. Too much for a super common gun. Let's see, when was the last time I saw a M27 out for sale at any price??? How about "never" over the past 5 years.

+1 on what VM said above with good pictures it could go north of $1000.

Thanks ya all!! Great information. The single action I have in mind to trade for is in the $800 to $900 range. It is a Ruger 357 Maximum with original box and paper work. Like condition 98%. With this info I have some leverage in the trade. If not I am in no hurry.

If that's a 10 5/8" barrel Ruger Max, you might consider trading it. The lowest I would think would be an even trade for your 27-2. The 27-2 is worth more in my eyes, but then you are the one that wants the Ruger. I'd want the Ruger owner to cough up $100 bucks plus the Ruger for the 10 5/8 version and more if the Ruger has a shorter barrel. The Max needs the longer barrel to deliver full velocity.

I used to own a 10 5/8 Ruger Blackhawk 357 Max and sold it 4 years ago for around $600 to a guy I was working with. Mine wasn't nearly new though and had a bunch of rounds down the pipe.

Not certain any trade value for that Ruger is going to be any where near comparable. First off, in my opinion, is the Ruger, while a nice gun, isn't comparable, at all, to the M-27 and the maximum is, for all intents and purposes, a dead cartridge. Is it even loaded anymore?

I think it isn't a good deal but not all will feel that way.... I just bought a NIB 27-2 blue 8 3/8" with "service stocks," target trigger/hammer in the regular blue box with all papers, complete warranty card (not filled out) and sealed package tools with vapor paper for $1,100. Gun is unfired except for factory firing prior to shipping. Wouldn't ever consider trading. You have a wooden case and nickeled finish....even better!

I'd say that 27-2 you have is a solid $ 1,200 gun right now . Five years from now, it will be 2k .
In terms of collectability , the 27-2 is the most sought after of any
S & W revolver from the 60's-70's era.
Their is no way I would trade for the Ruger , even if the guy threw in an extra $ 500. It just isn't worth it in the long run.
It's like it's 1972 and you are holding a front row ticket to see "the Who" , and you want to trade it for a 20th row seat
to see "Three Dog Night " It doesn't make sense .
I would hold tight to what you have now .

I agree with the guys who've opined that your gun is worth 4 figures. I'm prepared to go $1500 for a like new blued Model 27-2 with a 4" barrel. But I can't find one. And I'm not expecting an original box.

A .357 Mag with 180 grain Buffalo Bore cast bullets would make me feel safe in black bear country.

Again thanks everyone for the info. The deal did not happen it was a
7 1/2 inch and not a 10 1/2 barrel. I think, I will hang on to this one for a while.
