Casino Rant

Have been know to hit the casinos a bit. I Ike to play BJ and do all right on it. I have never played a "single deck" game as any game I have been in has had a long shoe.

As I could never have the speed and math ability to "count" that keeps the table fair for me. Basically its me Vs. the dealer on each hand.

I normally start on a $10 table and if doing good might wander over to a $25 or stay if they upgrade my 10 table to 25!

Used to play a lot at AC, we had planes that would take us down for the day and some times we would drive both ways, I lived in Albany then. Have played at Vegas and while taking a cruise at some island casinos, rather like playing at Aruba. Tried the ships casinos a couple times and was not impressed.

I took a chance on a couch back in 1964 + then I married her - we go to a casino in PA. after our monthly gun collectors association meeting - she plays the slots + has come out ahead every trip in past 5 years , I lose $20.00 , then wait for her + have a good meal -

I've watched my parents put thousands down slot machines; dad was working 2 and 3 jobs most of his life. They do NOT have the money to spare, but have been doing this for decades. At least they aren't in debt.

Once they pass I'll never set foot in a casino. I go now just to be with them (I play nickel slot poker 5 cents at a time) but casino gambling is even more egregious senior robbery than a reverse mortgage.

Instead of going to the casino, I just buy myself a six pack of expensive craft beer, stop buy the cigar shop and pick out a couple of the best they got then I sit in the driveway and light the cigar with a $100 bill.

Saves me a fortune. Freaks out the neighbors. Plus I've got a left over cigar.

Use to play BJ in Tunica, Ms. mostly at the Horseshoe or Gold Strike. I
played single or double deck games only. Used a couple different counting systems depending. Won about 70+ percent of the time and
never got greedy. Set myself a limit and if I lost that, I quit. The
counting systems I used depended upon placing the min. bet until the
count was in my favor then ramp up the bet. Sit in the last seat at the
table and watch everyone's cards.
Several casinos have stopped paying time and a half for a blackjack
and I do not play at those places. Also the Indian casinos across the
line in Ok. want an anti to see your cards which they keep win, lose
or push. Don't play those either.
Saw a guy from Detroit, Mi drop 70 grand one night at the Horseshoe.
He stood at the 2 hole and bet 1 to 8 thousand a hand, this at a 50
dollar table with a max of 5,000. But they let him play, he was not
a happy camper. They have a high rollers room and I wondered why
he was playing at table for us common folk. This all took less than 4
hours and during this time I won about $550.
That being said the wife took about half my chips and played the slots,
but we had two days free room, food and drinks and still brought about
$300. back to NW Arkansas.

Up in Indiana, Used to know a Bar- restaurant owner.
He thought he was a pro level poker player.
So he sold everything and moved to Vegas!
A while later I was stationed there , and I saw him all the time!
I hear you, get out of them poker places, work on your yard.
Spurge everywhere, wipe it out!
Hold on a sec! I didn’t see him in a casino.
I saw him down at Sears. When I went down to Sears, hardware and tools, I would circle through the appliances and say Howdy.
It turns out that the Real Vegas Poker Folks are just waiting for guys like him.
They cleaned him out in less than a year!

Playing one deck BJ is pretty darn easy to count cards..adds about 65-70% odds in your favor.. Went to a local fire hall poker night and won almost a grand from them in 20 minutes.. Went to the guy in charge...gave him a 500 dollar "donation" and told him to play at least 3 deck Blackjack. He listened. I played at the (I think) Claridge's in Atlantic City a fair amount in the past. Small casino and I won a fair amount...more than 20 grand. If you win big they are supposed to do a 1099 on you. Pit boss told me how to be that though. Went to Vegas(Bellaggio's) and ran a winning streak up to about 15000. They started changing dealers on me every 15 minutes till I was down to about 9000...amd said to heck with them and got out. I played the Casino on a cruise ship and can tell you the odds are skewed every way they can in their favor

Did you think they care what you think? "Player" or no, you are just one of tens of thousands of sheep to be sheared. as long as you submit to the clippers you are tolerated. My in laws brag about "winning" 20-30K at the casinos I Louisiana. What they do not tell you about are the multiple times that they lose 80-100K in a weekend. I used to live in Las Vegas right out of undergrad and with the arrogance of youth thought I was a "professional" gambler (laugh!). Did great for a while, then learned my lesson for life. The wife goes to casinos with her sister, but I tell her if she loses all of her "Kitty" I get to buy a new gun. She always loses it all.

I could walk to the closest casino where we live. I go usually when we get out of town guests who want to and that's about it. I have far better ways to spend my money.
Jim

Me too! I live in Reno/Tahoe and only go to the Casinos for food, shows and a little sight seeing. I spend my money and time on Armslist or at gun stores/shows. The wife, however...

I went into a casino once in Wheeling, WV when the chili cookoff competitors had a buffet dinner there. I was amazed at seeing what looked like acres of slot machines in there. I never spent a cent there. I don't gamble in any form. It probably ticks off people who are trying to sell raffle tickets but I feel if I buy from one I can't tell the rest I don't gamble.

Without Buddy Hackett, there is no reason to go into a casino.

He was a big time collector....I guess you know that....
