Been carrying my Shield IWB about two weeks here in the humid southeast since last time it was used at the range. Saw a post on this forum about the Shield mag release rusting. Checked mine and sure enough, release button almost seized tight. Cleaned and lubed, it is now part of my regular maintenance. Thanks for the heads-up.

Good thing you caught that! Best of luck in the future staying on top of that potential problem. Have heard that S&W will send you the new parts if necessary. :D

Good catch. Happened to me so bad I couldn't drop the mag. completely my fault BTW. Now I remove it once a month and clean / lube.

Extended Magazine releasing while firing

While shooting, not all the time, but every third or fourth shot mag releases. That is the extended mag only.

My mag is stuck in the weapon now. I have been soaking both sides of the release button with penetrating oil. No joy so far. How did you get yours out?

Welcome to the Forum, but don't expect a reply from the previous posters. You have posted to a Zombie Thread from eight years ago. The original poster is deceased, one has posted only once, and the other two rarely post. I'd like to help you, but my two Shields have not experienced this problem. Maybe it's because I clean and lube after every use, and the fact that I live in a low-humidity climate.

Hopefully some current members will come along with a solution for you soon.

Just give it a squirt of Hornady One Shot every now and then and wipe off the excess. The rest will dry to a protective lubricating film. My cleaning routine for the innards of my polymer-framed pistols is to blast them out with a polymer safe cleaning spray, hit them with compressed air to blow out the excess and any crud it breaks free, then spray them with the Hornady. I use CLP on the slide grooves and frame rails. I clean the bore with MPro7 cleaner then follow with CLP and a brush, then wipe out the excess with a dry patch. I carry IWB all the time and have never had any rust problems.

I had the same problem a few years ago. Finally I got tired of cleaning it and got an extended release that's rust free. Unfortunately I don't remember who I sourced the new release from. It was not expensive.
