I am looking at a J frame revolver for my CC options. In particular, I've narrowed it down to the Bodyguard .38

Just wanted to get some opinions...Good, bad, indifferent....

I haven't heard anything bad about the .38. The .380 seems beguiled with various problems though.
Can I ask if you've looked at a Centennial? Better know as the 442/642? Dale

No, I haven't looked at it yet. I did look at the .380 ACP and the Springfield XDS 45, but to be honest, the J frame just fits me better than either of these.

I'm going to take a look at Centennial though.

Thanks

If you are looking for a J frame to carry why not a Model 38? I like the fact I can carry it any way I want including in the pocket. And it is very light. I also carry a model 60 and if I want I can use 357 mag.

Go with the 649....

In my opinion, for what that is worth, the best J-frame snubbie ever made was the S&W 649, 649-1, or the 649-2, body guard. These can be found with relative ease and they make a great, great pocket carry gun.

Well, I went and looked at the Bodyguard .38, and I ended up buying it. Other than having a pretty stiff trigget, I really like the gun. It takes some getting use to, but I've put about 100 rounds through it, and I'm pretty good with it.

Also, based on the suggestions in this forum, I also looked at the 642. I rented one from my local range and really liked it...So, I bought one of them too!!! :)

Personal taste: I prefer the older J frames: 38, 36, 37, 40, 42, 49.

The only three diget I'm interested in is the 042.

This is only my preference, of course. I have no evidence that a 638 is inferior to a model 38. I just wouldn't buy the 638.

640, or the 686 with the 2.5" barrel it has one extra round. I carried a 640 for a while and loved it, but so did my father-in-law so that was that. I have the 686 with a 6 inch barrel and often dream of getting his shorter brother. If you want to cross over to the "dark side" I love my sp101 with a 3" barrel :-)
