CCW Model 60?

Carrying my 60-15 today in a Milt Sparks VMII....love this holster. Extremely comfortable for all-day wear. This is my warm weather rig as the horsehide construction seems to be very sweat resistant.

In fact, I just ordered another for my Kimber Ultra Carry Series I. I've got to believe that the slimmer profile of the semi-auto will be even more comfortable for EDC if that's possible.

Even though I don't carry my 60 Pro with the 3" barrel much anymore, I did for a period of time. Carried very well in a Simply Rugged Pancake. Very versatile gun!

The only downside is that it is a bit heavy for pocket carry, but apparently it works for jlanecole so it may work for you as well. I like the M&P 340 for that role, but also own the 640, just not a pocket gun for me.

I've pocket carried a 640 for years and the weight doesn't bother me. For a couple of years before I bought the 640 I pocket carried a Rossi 88, a very decent clone of the M60. My way of dress for work then didn't lend itself to IWB or OWB carry, and I don't need or want the option of SA fire in a defensive gun, so I had the hammer bobbed to prevent snagging on the draw.

I don't feel under-protected with a J frame and good ammunition.

Yep Metal Man the VMII is even comfy with a full size 45 ACP,
but opinions vary. We are not all the same.

Another IWB that I like a lot for my Model 60 is this "Inconspicuous"
by Mark garrity. I like the offset clip and he uses the best clip in the
business. The tension adjustment is also a plus. Mark is kind of a
super cop/instructor in the Phoenix area. When I dealt with him
it was a long wait, but worth it.

When I wear the M60 in the open I like this black gator by TJ,
on a Culver gator belt, shown with my Boker Kalishnikov knife.

I often carry one of my two M60s in my coat/vest pocket when riding motorcycles, or as a BUG.

I've used a High Noon Mr Softie for .38 J-frames, but I carried them as BUGs that needed to be concealed and didn't worry so much about the "stay open" features. A buddy recently bought a Safariland Model 18 for his 640 that he claims is comfortable for AIWB. When getting into 3 inch barrels, I'd seek holsters from the custom leather crafters such as Milt Sparks for the best comfort

My Model 60 in .357 magnum is a great carry piece.
I am used to it's very loud muzzle blast, and only use a specific gun range.

Hi
Anybody concealed carrying a Model 60?
3 inch?
2 1/8 inch?
What IBW holster are you using?

Any disadvantages to carrying the 60?

Thanks
Marty
I used to pocket carry a 2" Model 36 virtually every day, in a leather pocket holster I made.

If you're comfortable with .38 Special and five rounds before reloading, that'll get the job done.

I've since switched to a 3 1/2" M1911 in .45acp. The threat changed and I changed with it.

My cabin,hiking and hunting "Kit Gun" is a 3" 60-10, .357 ...... think micro 5 shot 686.

I found a little IWB ( no makers mark ) kidex holster at a small rural gun shop that fits it perfectly....... also havea small Bianchi X-15 Shoulder holster for winter carry under a jacket or coat.

I carry a model 60 daily. Iwb horsehide holster made by grizzle leather. Looks like a milt sparks vm2 but rides I bit deeper and doesn't have a reinforced mouth. But I can still reholster with one hand.

I carry my M60 with 2-1/8" barrel in a Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster. it is very concealable in the 4:00 position.

I regularly carry the model 60, see picture. I have two holsters, one I made and one I bought. Both are comfortable but the one I made is more concealable. Sorry, I don't have pics of the holsters.

When I carry my 60-0 it's in a Bianchi Shadow OWB.
Carries well.

I have a lotnof revolvers in the carry rotation and, particularly in hot weather, the Model 60 is a favorite. In fact, carried this 2" Model 60 today.

Sometimes carry this 3" when hiking. This is a rainy day in the Carolina Beach State Park.

The exposed hammer.

There is simply no realistic or practical need to retain single action capability on a modern day personal defense revolver. Not only does the external hammer come with the potential for inadvertently cocking it in a high stress situation, but it can cause snagging issues during the draw(especially with pocket carry), it cannot effectively be fired from inside the pocket(or purse), the hammer can be obstructed or get entangled in clothing during a close-quarter struggle or an assailant grabbing your weapon in a disarm attempt. I think the enclosed hammer "centennial" models are much more suitable for concealed carry.

I CCW the 60-15 3" with 38 +P loads. Carry it with shirt untucked in a Galco OWB holster. Love it! Only disadvantage is in the case of overwhelming odds you have an underwhelming number of rounds in the cylinder. A not very likely occurrence for which I usually now carry a couple of speedloaders.

I have J,K and L frames and my favorite all around (range, woods, CCW) is the 2 1/8" all stainless J-frame, albeit the shrouded hammer sister of the M60 - the M649. I deep conceal AIWB with a Sticky holster as my Remora seemed to lose its 'grip.'
