CCW permit holders targeted

It’s not limited to the criminal element. With the information available to anyone it can lead to discrimination in hiring, acquiring insurance—you may be deemed a risk, renting a home or apartment and the list goes on and on.

I have heard how some companies will not extend an offer to a concealed carry permit holder. My attitude is that if they don't want a CCW holder working for them, I don't want to be there.

I agree that this information should be confidential. However, until that is the law in every state the best way to fight the WRAL's in this country is to contact their advertisers. Let the advertisers know that you will not spend any money with the advertiser as long as they continue to support WRAL or any similar media outlet. Advertisers withholding their dollars will be far more persuasive than a group of people the media considers a bunch of "gun nuts."

That is absolutely ludicrous. It puts all N. Carolina CCW holders at risk.

Ya know it puts others at risk, too, as in if home invaders decide to attack someone's home, they can check. If there's a CCW they can go a few houses down, knowing they DON'T.

We have to live with the same thing in Tn also.

Why the media believes this is a good thing, is beyond me. There have numerous attempts to stop this practice here, but without success to this
point.

Tennessee Handgun Carry Permits Information & News from The Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)

The liberal media and gun-control advocacy groups use this to intimidate CCW holders. If a few get shot up or robbed, so much the better.

If you were to publish the names and addresses of the newspaper personnel in this way, they would squeal like pigs. That wouldn't be hard. If not in the White Pages, the information is in public documents of incorporation and property tax ledgers.

A similar effort was made in Illinois to publish the names of FOID card holders. Our otherwise invisible Attorney General, Lisa Madigan, stood behind the newspapers' effort. Mayor Daley saw it as probable cause for a search warrant if the FOID holder did not register firearms with the city. A massive barrage of letters to the legislators stopped it with overwhelming bi-partisan support.

A West Coast FL newspaper published a list (full name, address, I think DOB, etc. for entire county) and a lot of folks on another forum took serious issue with it by posting publicly the names/addresses/family member names/RE info/etc. of the author, publisher and editor of said paper . . . they were furious and took down their list. They thought it unfair for THEIR personal info to be out there on the Internet!! :D

They also got legislators involved and FL passed a law to prohibit publication/access except for LE access.

The folks in states where it isn't confidential must do something similar to "raise awareness" and get the laws changed. Good luck!

In my state (Florida) it is written into the statute that CWP holders info is not subject to public records searches and they cannot divulge it.
+1 this.
I would hate the idea of the media taking it upon themselves to call me out (even if it was publicly available).
That being said, it inadvertently may be worse for people not on the list as a backwards way of telling BGs who doesn't have a CCW license. Overall, it's a lose-lose for everyone except the BGs.

Just because your name isn't on the list does not mean you do not have a firearm. There may be a loaded Mossberg in a corner or Grandpa's WWII captured P38. I had a co worker and neighbor in PA who had an un registered pistol. He had no other guns (that I knew of).

It is hard to imagine the public service the paper was trying to provide by printing a list of ccw holders. One of the reasons we have so few home invasions is the probabibility of meeting an armed homeowner. I was told that in Buncombe County, NC there are 2000 people licensed to carry concealed. I am confident thia is only a small percentage of gun owners.

I guarantee you that there are MANY gun owners in Buncombe County! I'm surprised, though, that there are only 2000 with permits. I'm one!

Gun registration is ridiculous too. That's illegal in my state too...

But I guess that's another story. I take for granted sometimes how good we have it here. All you who live in states with all these stupid laws and requirements... just waiting for the knock on the door.
