I can't believe this thread is still going. Makes me feel kinda bad; traded away that nickel Centennial some time back; got a 642-1 now with all forged parts and no lock, but I miss that sweet Model 40 in a way.

Centennials

I agree. To me, the Centennial is the quintessential carry gun.

I just got my first one from Cabelas. $320 otd. I almost strained my wrist getting my wallet out. Used, no box but the trigger stages perfectly.

My 642-1 I bought new about 2 months ago.

I haven't seen any of these on here yet so I figured I'd chime in. My faithful 332 that has been in my pocket for the last 3 years. It's currently in the process of becoming my wife's sidearm, but for that same reason there's a 442 ND on it's way to my FFL :D

I'm resurrecting this thread with a comment and question- I personally really admire the S&W Centennial! I carried a 342Ti as a BUG for a good portion of my LE career and recently added a 1953 "pre" Model 40 and a 1966 Model 40 to my Centennial collection.

Is there a source or reference which lists each and every "Centennial" model S&W ever produced? To start with and include the "pre" 40 and 42 up to today's offerings…

I've had many J-frame snubnose guns in the last fifty+ years, but for reasons unknown, never a Model 40. It may be a moot point for some, but a revolver with a grip safety would seem to be the safest revolver ever made, assuming the grip safety is reliable.
