Spice is the variety of life... food, the only necessity that can be a delicious adventure... never stop trying new things.

In "Oki" the bars had dried squid, that was like our USA pretzels, for snacking.
You either liked it or left it sit there.

Yams are great if cooked long enoufh and I like to add some butter along with some
brown sugar and cinnamon, to pick it up a notch.

I would steam two whole bags of little neck clams and help them down with a loaf of garlic bread when I was young, with the wife,
until I developed Gout and they are seldom seen now, as well as beer, that my doctor told me to back away from, as well as anchovies on my pizza.

You know, I used to dislike balut, but in my 60s I'd rather eat dirt.

Childhood summertime routine...

My dad would stop at the bakery on Sunday morning and get a loaf of fresh bread, then he'd hit the Cheese House and buy a 1# brick of Limburger. Mom made him cut it into cubes outside and seal it in jars before she'd allow it in the house!
Mmmmmmm!

No wonder I'll eat darn near anything!

Not much in the seafood category I don't like. On the fence with scallops, like the flavor when they are fresh but the texture gives me the willies. Best calamari I've ever had was at Hemenway's in Providence, RI. Liked it so much we went back twice more. Lightly sauteed, not breaded and with little hot peppers mixed in...man I may need to get a plane ticket tonight and get back up there.

I usually try to stay out of the city, but Providence is small. I will be in RI all summer, so maybe I will try there for a meal, but no calamari. I use that for bait. :D

I love Calamari that is done well... best I ever had was a Calamari Hoagie in Spain.. El Brilliante... Madrid, next to the art museum... it was fantastic.

Growing up with an Italian mother ( Ronzoni or Buitoni almost every day) and now having an Italian wife, my taste buds will never veer too far off course.
Most meals ending in a vowel work.
