I'm looking to buy a S&W ar. I'm thinking about the 15t, but now I'm thinking of just buying the orc to save some money, and just changing the rail. Has anyone done this? How difficult is it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, curt

On the MP15OR changing the front handguards is as easy if you are using replacement handguards or quad rails which utilize the original handguard rings (Yankee Hill, Daniel Defense and I believe Troy Idustries all have quadrail models that utilize the original handguard rings with no modification to your rifle). If you are going with a free float rail, then some modification to the rifle or gas block may be necessary.

What Tbat said. If I'm not mistaken Troy has a rail that fits in as a replacement for the handguards that you can lock down with no movement. It is not a free floating unit though. Check their site for more info. I have the FT version living in NY, and it is rock solid.

One of the various rails available from Troy....this is their 7" CAR/M4 "Drop-In BattleRail".....installed on my M&P15 OR. It uses the original handguard rings.
