I was told by a guy that the AR15-22 is picky on ammo. I can't shoot mine until after Christmas, but I want to start buying some and stock up. Has anyone had any problems with certain ammo?

Mine runs just about anything we put through it, even the dreaded Remington Golden Bullets. Typically shoot CCI Blazer or Federal 550 bulk packs though.

Mine likes cci blazer and cci standard velocity. It didn't like a particular batch of Winchester m22, but it has eaten it since. Remington, on the other hand, is hit or miss (fire). Federal has been decent. But I'm sticking with cci....

I'd buy a single box of everything I could find and shoot them for groups beginning in 12/26. When you are done, stock up the cheapest, accurate ammo that works 100% of the time. There are few things worse than stocking up on something that shoots patterns instead of groups. One of those few things is stocking up on ammo that turns your gun into a jam-a-matic.

Not likely with the 15-22, but possible.

It should run good on CCI SV or Minimags. Blazers too. I wouldn't invest too much in other brands without trying a box of 50 first.

As a rule of thumb, I expect a 4% failure rate when I use cheap, dirty, bulk ammo. That % is acceptable to me. It drops to 1% when I use more expensive ammo.

My 2 standard 15-22's run everything reliably except Remington and Aguila Sub-sonic and CCI quiets. Any standard or high velocity ammo should be good to go.

You of course will have the occasion fail to fire with bulk ammo. (to be expected)

Now my Performance Center 15-22 is a different story. The tighter "match" chamber seems to much pickier on what it will run. It will run Golden Bullets all day long, hates Federal automatch but will run Federal bulk pack. (go figure...)

Honest my 15-22 eats about anything. I just ran 20+ different ammo thru mine and she ate over 2500 + round over 3 days with only 3 Failure to feed. 2 from on series of ammo and 1 from a pretty costly round. But she ate them all up and asked for more.

You can see 21 of the rounds I feed her in my ammo test posted in this section.

Both of mine will shoot anything they are fed. CCI is, of course, the tops, but the 15-22s I have will shoot it all. I've run Winchester bulk, Winchester Super X, Federal bulk, Federal Auto Match, Aguila Golden Eagle, Aguila Super Extra, Aguila Match Rifle, Aguila Match Pistol, CCI Blazer, CCI Standard, CCI Mini Mag, Remington Golden Bullets, Fiocchi, and probably some I've forgotten through them.

I have a Marlin that will only reliably cycle CCI Standard Velocity, but the Smiths eat them all and spit them out.

Omg! Just scored 1000 rds Winchester M 22

I had to go to walmart tonight for something and I passed through sporting goods for the heck of it. I asked the guy behind the counter if he had any 22lr and he goes I think I have 1 box left, lemme check. He pulls out a box of 1000 Winchester M 22. Now I have never shot these before but I know they are not on the S&W do not use list so I pounced on the deal. $50.87 plus $3.31 tax.
$54.18 total

I just got back into shooting again around July of 2014. I didn't even know about the ammo shortages. But quickly found out. I have purchased approx. 8000 rounds of 22lr since then, probably more. The best I have done is $98 for a 1000 including shipping. Tonight's purchase is like unreal to me! He said he didn't know when they will be getting more in.

I would not stock up on Golden Bullets.
Mine was finicky when it was new I could probably shoot golden bullets now but I don't.
If you are buying a lot I would stay with CCI or Federal.

Just got 15-22 last week and shot 500 rounds while my first range visit. I shot Mix of CCI standard vel, blazer, remington golden bullet and armscore. No singe issue, amazing rifle after junk quality GSG 522 I shot before in 22lr. I am amazed how good design and implementation could make such difference, with GSG I can't shot 50 rounds without misfire or whatever issue. I ship GSG twice for repair and it comeback exactly the same .... junk :)

Was at the range today with my 15-22 , fed 400 rounds thru it while sighting in a new scope. Tried Federal bulk then Aguila and some Remington thunderbolt, and Golden Boys that I had in an ammo can, shot em all no ftf or fte. Tried the new cowbell target out, what a blast shooting that 15-22 with ringing and clanging targets. So far it shoots anything I load with no problems what so ever. Found CCI mini mags at Walmart of all places Last week $.11/ each 3 box limit bought 300 rounds, Found Federal bulks locally today for $.07/each bought 650 rounds, owning the 15-22 I buy 22lr whenever I see it now,

I got to shoot my 15-22 for the first time yesterday and had quite a few fail to fire with the Winchester 36gr hollow point 333 rd box, it was also smashing and deforming the bullet. Needless to say I stopped trying to shoot those. I also had about 8 out of a 100 rds fail to fire with Federal Automatch. CCI Tactical ran flawlessly. I spent way too much time prying bent or jammed HP out of the chamber to ever want to shoot them again. I'm lucky that I have some other types of ammo to check out next time I go shooting.

Iv shot over 30 different ammos with the target sheets to prove it. I ahve been collecting data for what seems like years. Mine loves golden bullet minus the fact there is a ewduds in every box and it's the cheapest ammo that will reliable work on the slide fire. Now for acuracy I realy like the Aguila Interceptor and the CCI Stinger and the Winchester super X. The worst ammo has been Winchester 222/333/555.

Now with that said all ammo will shoot dfferently out of each gun. Whats good through mine may be **** through yours just look at the remy golden bullet folks hate them. While others like me love them. Each rifle is different and your needs may be different. I wanted a round for the sldie fire that was cheap and I wanted a good stable hunting round with High FPE out to 100 yards with good groupings.

My 10/22 eats anything I feed it. Ran some Winchester 333, Golden bullets, and Federal Automatch, and some 50 year old Remington red box through it last time out. They all cycled great. I was worried as I had purchased 4 boxes of 333 before reading all the horrible reviews on them. Guess I'm just lucky, and maybe there might be a better chance of getting the 333 that no one wants.
