Cheap beer *A rant*

As a good friend used to say:

There's domestic beer and
There's imported beer
There's light beer and
There's dark beer
But the best beer
Is free beer

This is giving away my age, but I used to drink JAX, then later when I moved to Texas, and Jackson Brewing Co was no more...it was LONE STAR...then they went KPUT!..now it is COORS..but not that LITE ****!

Remember high school? My first can of beer (bought illegally of course) was FALSTAFF...and Pabst Blue Ribbon...Pearl?... and remember Champaigne Velvet in the multi colored cans????

So, you drove right past me without even stopping to say hello?

No. I was probably on my own corner drinking Hamm's. I used to take my Raleigh DL1 over to my pop's house. He'd drag out his Schwinn 3-speed. (So I'm a bicycle snob, not a beer snob.) We'd ride down along the tracks to downtown Minneapolis, up the Nicollet Mall, and out to a corner store in a seedy neighborhood south of downtown, where we'd pick up a couple of quarts or forties of 3.2 (it was about rehydration, not the buzz) and drink them right there on the sidewalk before we continued our loop.

Pop used to like the English bikes; he commuted to work at the paper on a Hercules or Raleigh. Later in life, he preferred the sprung mattress saddles that came on Schwinns as easier on the undercarriage, so his bikes were red instead of black. But his taste in beer stayed pretty much the same.

I guess I misunderstood the original post. I thought it was pretty humorous and didn't understand it's hurtful nature. Sometimes I just don't take things seriously enough.
For me, I like beer. Sometimes I drink Bud, sometimes i drink micro-brews, and if you're buying I'll take what ya got.

Of all of the many, many beers I've drank, the free ones were and always will be, the best!!

Tonight I took my bride out for a steak. Yes, filet. And we ordered drinks. Her a white zin, me a diet Bud (Bud light.) Its because its what I like. I don't really care what you drink at all. I just don't want to pay for it. And I've learned that most people who drink high cost beer are trying to impress others. They fail miserably.

But with my friends, I'm drinking expensive beer. They know it cost big bucks, like $18 a case. They drink Bush light, or Milwalkee's worst. I can drink those brands if ice cold and free.

When someone tells me how great their nasty beer is, I also disbelieve most of the other stuff they say, too.

Samuel Adams:D You mean there are other brands out there?:D

Frightening how time passes, began selling in 1984.

It's all going to end up in the sewer system anyhow. I guess them Bud drinkers don't even want to filter it themselves. It comes that way...........:) Kidding!!!! :)

Drink what you like......my house beer is Deschutes Black Butte Porter. I started buying it when the kids started to get to drinkin' age. They won't touch anything that don't mostly taste like water, so I always have beer in the fridge!

Budweiser has served me well for almost 44 years, I won't be changing anytime soon, though a shot of Wild Turkey is mighty fine also..

Back in the 50s, stationed at Ft Bliss in El Paso, we'd go 'across the creek' to visit 'Wazoo' and I tried Corona, Cruz Blanca and other assorted Mexican beers. Then someone shoved a bottle of Dos Equis in front of my snoot and I was hooked. It costs the same as anything else over there. I drink it in preference to anything else easily available. I got some at the Class 6 Store and it's in the reefer now.

Then I visited a friend in New Zealand, and he showed me Speights, which is regulaly priced beer over there. I drank gallons of it, to the extent of several gallons on the same night. Great stuff!! I like it even better than XX, but can't find it here. I'll have to visit him again and get beered up for the rest of my life.

I had him over here once, and we visited a fancy restaurant with their own brew pub. They had a metal thing, holding 7 or 8 shot glasses, and they'd fill each with a different one of their beers. We both tried them all, and then went home and drank XX for preference.

Back over 20 years ago I lived in Laredo TX for awhile. I had a friend (hispanic) who was VERY well connected on both sides of the river. He told me that in Mexico at one time, Corona beer was considered the cheapest, lowest-class, and poorest quality rotgut beer in all of Mexico, the drink of peons and no one else. Sort of the beer equivalent of Night Train or Mad Dog 20/20 wine. That is, until an American importing company came in, took over, and turned it around with a new image of being a sophisticated premium beer for upscale gringo yuppies. Think about that.

When you drink it the way my ex does, you need it cheap. He'd go through a 30-pack of Busch Light every two days. However, he did also have quality beer standards. He started brewing his own high octane beer as well, which was dark, rich and flavorful (high sugar), and would drink that in addition to his nightly 15-pack.

I assume by now he's an expert brewmeister. I haven't seen him in well over a year.

Interesting discussion,I am strange and had my man card punched a few times for drinking good beer. I take my brother a case of Hillbilly Swell on occassion cause he's my brother. Don't drink the swell but he likes it and that is all that matters

Back in high school, my favorite way to chill beer was popping the hood on my '64 Impala and shoving 2 cases in the space in front of the radiator. In winter it's be frosty in about 15 minutes. Joe

What tastes good to one might not taste good to another.

I do notice that those who drink cheap beer daily in quantity also (chain)smoke , so what do they know.

Some of the most expensive beers taste (and aftertaste) as bad or worse than some of the cheapest.

I drink beer when I'm trying to relax. Can't relax with a bad taste in my mouth. And no , I don't smoke.

What a great discussion. Sadly I have given up beer. I have also lost 75 lbs - partially as a result of giving up beer. Now my heart and liver are in better shape, but there are times that I do miss it. Especially the expensive micro-brews out of Oregon.

I had a friend that would go to a store and buy a 12 pack of Keystone Light because it was cheap. The thing was that he would bounce a check for the 12 pack, after bank and store fees it would cost him around $35.00. I kept telling him that if he was going to bounce a check why not go for the good stuff.
