Cheapest Smith ever - in last few years

Few good deals in my past:
In 2005 after I got back from Iraq went in to my usual dealer asked if he had any 4" model 10's- he produced a 5 gallon pail full and said pick one out $165 out the door, $150 each for 3 or more. Should have bought 3!
About the same time wandered in to our local gander mountain - mixed in with the $450 model tens was a pre model number first year production highway patrolman with the original matching grips for $325. Sold it later for over twice what I paid without even trying
A few months before moving west went into the same dealer who had the bucket of model 10's and asked for 15's this time it was a postal service bin full of 15's whichever one I wanted $300 out the door, ended up with a 4 screw with original matching grips

Bought a 3" Mdl 34 for $199 about a year ago from LGS; it had most of the blue gone on the frame, but with lots of elbow grease it now looks sort of semi-new.

The other was this gem on GA: a 649 that someone had decided to "custom scroll" with an electric engraver of some kind. I bought it for $249, took it home and tried unsuccessfully to polish out the mess. Couldn't stand to look at it and counted myself lucky to sell it for what I paid.

The least I ever paid in recent times was when we went to buy a generator from a lady about 5 years ago , and as we were leaving she asked if we knew anybody who would be interested in buying a gun. It was a 19-3 , 4 " pinned and recessed but it had been reblued , it had a cracked forcing cone and for $ 175 I bought it , and she thu in a couple speed loaders and a vintage leather holster. I shot about 1,000 rounds of .38 special thru it before I traded it in toward a $ 3,000 Python (along with a nickel 19 , a nickel model 10 and a blue model 10 and a bunch o cash.)

The best real recent deal was at the local gun dealer. He had about 100
model 64's that were former Georgia dept of corrections (prison guard) handguns. All mechanically sound , shot little , carried a lot, but all had
numbers crudely scratched into the frames . These were in the $ 250-$ 275 range, so I bought a half dozen of them.

Couple of years ago bought a Model 28, 2 sets of grips, holster 200 rounds factory .357 ammo and a about 150 once fired brass for 385$
Someone who knew nothing about revolvers told me about his neighbor who was moving into a retirement center was selling his guns for him , it wasn't a semiautomatic so he wasn't interested.
he referred to the 28 as an "old obsolete piece of junk"...

At that price I will gladly take the"junk" off any ones hands...

Two years ago now..... an anib 'unfired" 6904 for $260.

A CZ 452FS/mannlicher stock in .22lr used but still in the box/ bolt still in a sealed bag for $359.

Walther PPK/s .32 with 4 mags for $280

A buddy of mine who had done some jewelry repair for a customer told me he was going over to her house to look at some guns her late husband had owned and she was trying to sell. I went with him and she had PPK style 380 and a Model 66 with targets. He got both for $260.

Your model 64's sound like mine. There is a huge "44" ep'd in the side plate, and two smaller "44"'s on the other side. Look like they were done by a drunk 4th grader with a piece of granite. Mine also required reassembly. $190 shipped and transferred.

I picked up a 3" 13-4 with a box, and magnas along with the UM's it was wearing for $425. Only problem is something was spilled on it and left for a while. Probably blood but not sure. So there are a few places where it has bluing loss on one side. The other side looks brand new. I won't feel guilty carrying this one and getting a bump on it.

I recently picked up a nicely worn in 36 flat latch with the original leather holster it was carried in for $300. I'm very happy with it.

Where is the guy who recently posted up about the trade he made, getting a Registered Magnum for auto repairs? He is the winner, imo.

As a shooter new to this forum, I am curious what are the lowest prices anyone has found a shootable Smith for, say at a Pawn Shop, Yard sale etc.
Could look like a beaten up dog, I'm just wondering what is the absolute bottom of Smith pricing.

Model 37 Flat latch, Bucheimer holster and a box of shells, $250 from a neighbor two years ago.

I have found some smoking deals over the years at yard sales and at one particular pawn shop where I had an "in" with the girl who managed it.

But, my best "deal" happened only a couple weeks ago, and I am almost embarrassed to mention it. A good buddy of mine, a fellow retired LEO I used to work with, very recently and unexpetantly came into a rather large amount of money. As in pay off the house, a new Toyota Pick Up Truck, and the ability to live comfortably the rest of his and his wives lives.

We were "browsing" a local gun shop, and I spotted a model 69 with a 2.75 inch barrel. Been really thinking about another compact big bore for woods carry, so I decided to buy it. Did the paperwork, and while waiting for the background, I wondered off and was looking at holsters. When I came back to the register, the salesman said I was all set. My friend had paid for it already. I was uncomfortable at first, but he asked me if the roles were reversed, and I had a bunch of cash burning a hole in my pocket, Would I do the same for him? Point taken, so I accepted his gift with grace. Just so to show I am not a total leech, I did buy another AR-10 last week, along with an optics sighted Kimber 1911, with my own money....:)

I got my model 36 for $200 recently.

See my "just acquired a rough Model 36" thread

Most of my other Smiths I paid out the nose for, finding this one for cheap was nice for a change!

:)

Last month a friend sold me a mod 19 4"in excellent condition for 400.00. About 5 years ago I bought a 4" Python from him for 800.00. Both times I told him he could sell them for more, he didn't care.

Deal or not,

Nib s&w mim/loc n frames $699 each nickel , blue or stainless all calibers at a LGS.

K22/6" blue masterpiece target $595
K38 pre number 14 combat master piece 38spc/4" Barrel Blue $595
K38 pre number 15 target masterpiece 6"/38spc. Blue $495.
All there had light red freckling the seller thought was rust that turned out to be dried oil. There in excellent condition 99.99%.

This "Early Chiefs Special-Model of 1953", in near mint condition, with genuine India Sambar Stag grips was not described correctly on one of the auction sites. It immediately caught my eye, and I purchased it for $400, a couple years ago.:o

I picked up this pre Model 10 off of Gunbroker last year from a seller that I have bought from a few times for $179, nobody else had bid with an hour left on the auction, so I bid and won.

The cheapest deal I ran into were three police trade in model 15's non pinned, rusted, with hogue rubber grips , and one had a broken rear site.$410. each .All three sold within two weeks at those prices.

Picked up this '49 M&P from a police retiree downsizing for a move. Paid $225 with the ammo pictured and a period Bucheimer holster. He threw in two semi-auto .22 rifles as well.

Well, I just bought a coated pre model Highway patrolman for $325. Sight unseen. Told about it from another member. A 5 screw frame.

Offf another member I just bought a triple lock for $200. Externally a total rust bucket. So bad he couldn't get the side plate off and he tried to drill the screws aftter the heads came off, but thinks the guts are OK.

Have I lost my mind. Yes, and I have a fantasy. Harvest the internals, I have another cut down triple lock barrel, Between the 2 I should be able to come up with a good triple lock shroud. I have a couple model 25 barrels. some machining and tig welding and a modern triple lock barrel with rib. Some machining on the 28 frame and yoke and hopefully a triple lock frame. Some spot heat to reform the recoil shield to get rid of the dimple for the ejector rod end. A recessed 44 mag cylinder reamed to 45 colt and I will have my dream gun. A modern, triple lock target in 45 colt thats able to handle 255 bullets at 1100fps.
