Serial number 33495 ought to have shipped in 1953. It should not chamber a .357 Magnum round.

I think the question is will it handle the pressure ????

Smith & Wesson's position is that even .38 Special +P shouldn't be shot in any .38 Special revolver made before model numbers were applied (circa 1957). I think you'd have to be pretty foolhardy to think you could safely run .357 Magnum through one.

What exactly is it that you are looking into? Whether other owners of the same model can check if their gun will "chamber" .357s? Or if yours is unique?

Since you've owned the gun since new, perhaps it was assembled with the wrong cylinder....

Whatever you do, don't tempt fate and see if it will fire a .357!

The wrong cylinder, a .357 Magnum J frame cylinder, did not exist in 1953.

Somebody pushed the reamer in a little too far at the factory, or, its been modified.
