I stopped in at the lgs a few days ago and the owner says he has something just for me. He pulls out this awful dirty Nickel SB Chiefs Special and says I can have for only $350. I asked him if that price was with or without the junk that was all over it. He just laughed. I looked it over, couldn't tell what it was coated with but could tell it would come off easily. Below that was a lot of cloudiness(which didn't come off easily). Everything that was supposed to move easily didn't. It's an early J prefix, looked it up in the book and it dates to '69-70. Grips are not numbered, both panels are marked with a J. The Tyler T was incorrect, it is for a K frame. I used Flitz for the clean up.

I know from the looks of the gun that it took a lot of effort to clean and polish, but it sure looks like it was worth it. Turned out real nice and looks good.
Congratulations on the purchase.

That is a very nice looking Chiefs Special - You did a great job bringing it back. Flitz is my choice for a job like that too, then a coat or two of Ren Wax. Well done!

Congratulations and kudos to you for saving that piece of History. It's surprising how well a stainless or nickel gun will clean up with Flitz or Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish.

Here's a 29-2 that I picked up whose cylinder wouldn't even open when I got it. Still has a couple of the Mother's Polish spots on it.

Nice Chief

I have a blued square butt from 1968 which has been in the family since new. Last year I picked up 2 round butt 36s from the 70s. Hoping to find a nickeled 36 someday.
