Chill of an early fall?

Well, I don't know what the weather guessers might say, but it was in the high 40's this morning and only made the mide 60's today. It's been a rainy disappointing summer weather wise and the garden vegetables still are loaded with product that hasn't ripened. We're expecting low 30's overnight and a frost, so I just got in from playing the "let's cover everything over" game and move all the flower containers up on the porches. Unseasonably cool, unseasonably wet and the tree's are already losing their leaves.

Thank goodness for the approaching hunting season. Watched a herd of white tails in the back 40 all summer. Watched all the new kids and two sets of twins born this past May or early June. Plenty of Ruffed Grouse around and Turkey too. The trees are absolutely loaded down with apples, their branches sagging from the weight. Berries are everywhere, plenty forage for the wild critters this fall. Local farm neighbors are up in arms over a new neighbors dogs coursing deer, apparently irresponsible fools who will likedly be saving money on dog food in short order.

Thought I'd give you all a shout out, since I've been away from the forum awhile. The shop is busy as hell and I'm trying to steal some time in between rain storms to get the "honeydew" list done for the season....I don't think I'm gonna make it though. The weather just keeps knockin' me down on days I have the time. Well boys, I hope you're all good and I look forward to hearing about your summer.

Hi Lefty, good to hear from you again. It has been a crazy mixed up Minnesota summer here. Very wet and cool this past Spring, then mixed cool and very hot, muggy weather in late June & into July. August was also mixed with colder than normal, then hot as h*** around state fair time. Haven't had any rain now for about three weeks. Lawn is toast. This week has been unseasonably cool at night and mild daytime. Don't seem to be able to get a consistent run of temps for several days, as is typical here in early September. Haven't seen the normal number of white tails this summer, but the coyotes are thick here. I'm sitting on the screen porch as I write this, listening to them cackle and yelp out behind my pole barn. Just might have to dust off the.22-250.

I notice everyone but the OP has his state listed. Its been pretty warm around here. The only good part is Momma's new house is energy efficient. Just got the electric bill for August and it totaled $87 including gas (only used for hot water at this time of year.) I remember the old house were it exceeded $300 a few times.

I haven't looked at the apple tree (its at the back fence.) I've noticed a few deer tracks, probably small doe. She seems partial to apple twigs. If I could get motivated to get back into hunting, I'd probably lose a few lbs and feel better. The problem seems to be that when I go hunting, I find a comfortable looking spot either in the shade if its warm or the sun if its cool. Then I sit down and "rest". I do that with my eyes closed!

Jimmy can usually help me for a little while. After that I gotta go where it's warm.

down to 44 here in pittsburgh area tonight. got a bunch of cukes and tomatoes from my buddies garden yesterday. been passing them out to other friends. told my wife on the way home today the air smells like winter. not much of a summer. tasted corn from area farms the last week or so, best in 30 years. talking bread and butter corn.

Still pretty darn warm here. It was in the low 90's today. That's okay, though. Still have a few things left in the garden that need harvesting and canning in the next couple weeks. Wormed horses and mules this morning, so we're set there until December.

I've got the winter wood supply in, so I'm okay there. But, it would be nice if it cooled down a bit.

Well as someone already said it's 108+ here today. Not sure but I think it got to 110-111 out here in Tonopah today cause when I looked at the gauge it was already on the down hill slide for the day.

Anyway someone else mentioned the power bill and one thing I don't have to worry about out here is the hot water heater. I turned it off in May and still haven't turned it back on probably got a few more weeks till I do. The sun and heat keep the water hot enough so I don't need the heater and in fact I use the water from the hot water heater to cool down the "cold" water when I take a shower.

I rarely even wear long pants out here in the desert during the winter at least during the day just doesn't get cool enough. The legs ain't as pretty as they were 50 years ago but at my age now I don't care I just like to be comfortable.

At the moment it is 58 in Boston, my favorite season slowly is arriving.

Crisp fresh apples, cider and pumpkins.

And Mother Nature, the greatest artist of all will be painting another masterpiece.

It's still in the 90's here. I've got one more picking of purple hull peas. We've been eating them for a couple of weeks. We had venison steaks, fresh pulled peaches and cream corn on the cob, fresh fried okra, and buttered new red potatoes for supper. We're about to run out of venison but I think it will last until the season opens. The tomatoes are about gone but I froze a lot of them to cook with later. I've got a few gallons of smashed muscadines for future wine and maybe some jelly. The freezer is full of fish and shrimp. Life is good.

Been a little cooler here last couple of days ( around 80)
but they are calling for it to warm back up into upper 80's
to lower 90's by end of week with humidity returning.
I also heard where the Farmers Almanac is calling for a
very cold and snowy winter here in the Ohio Valley area.
Hope they are wrong.
I am also ready for cooler temps to set in so i can get out
and start hunting. Deer, Waterfowl, Yotes....
I do love the Fall but as a guy gets older he hates what
always follows it.

We had a balmy 95 today, with a dry 75% humidity. This summer has been a little cooler than last. So far we have not hit 100, that I know of.

It's 6am Friday morning in Elmira NY temp is a crisp 39. Yeah deer seasons less than a month away!!

6am in SanAntonio and it is already like 83 high should be around 100 it was 101 yesterday.
What we need it for it to RAIN.. Not rain but RAIN.
Not complaining thou yall can have the 40s in september Ill take the heat any day over cold.

Aloha,

High 80s with 60+% humidity.

Not too much of a breeze.

I'm sweating sitting still with my iced tea in the patio and overhead fan on full speed.

The dogs are sleeping at my feet.

You guys with the farms with game make life sound great.

But, I also realize that to Maintain the farm probably is more WORK that I want to do.

So I guess it's either Sam's Club or Costco for steaks and veggies.

Wife is FROM Minnesota and tells me I would not like winter and all that goes with it.

Plus when it gets down into the 60s, I'm Freezing.

It was 103 in DFW today, our 26th day of over 100 this summer. We are not having a lot of confusion on what season it is, no matter what the calendar says.
