Chipmunk trapping

I have a piece of pipe in my yard chipmunks like to run through. One day I was fast enough to stand the pipe up on end before he ran out.

So I called my 3 year old son over to see it when I released it, as he ran over, the chipmunk ran up the pipe and leaped over my son's head.

"Wow Dad that was so cool". My son's preschool teacher asked my wife if I really had a cannon that shoots chipmunks.

Any way, I never had any luck trapping them with bait, but if I put the trap at the end of the pipe with no bait, I can catch a chipmunk everyday.

chipmunks are cute but they burrow all over the place & they can be a nuisance if you have a garden and they can cause extensive damage if they burrow under your expensive brick patio. Worse case they can also cause damage to your homes foundation or cause structural damage to the house by causing water to seep in or make their homes in between the walls.
First thing to do is to get rid of their food source and cover up any holes that you may find. In walls/sidewalks use sealant or cement to cover any holes. Get rid of any bird feeders if you have them. clean up the yard & property of clutter. There are some repellants on the market, your local home depot may have some. You can catch them live but check with your local laws about what to do with them after you catch the little guys. me personally I would just use rat traps & bait them with peanut butter.. they like that stuff for some reason.

At my place in Eastern Iowa they have always been all over the yard but - so far - haven't bothered the house.

Last winter was very mild and this spring the little buggers are every where!!! Holes all over the place that they run in and out of.

My JRT likes them!!

Well then just Hose them out!:D

Chippies hang out in our stone and paver walls and walkways. I don't mind as long as they don't destroy anything. However our feral cat has a twisted attraction towards the little fellas. He bats them around a while then uses a surgeon's precision to remove the heart and other unidentifiable parts to leave at the alter in front of my wife's dryer.

Had some success today. Decided against relocation and went with other means of disposal.

Don't panic country folks! - had I decided to relocate I was going to a city park.

Those little pelts look good stretched out on your back fence. Or if you sew enough together you could make a throw to cover your footsies :)

Last time I had the oil changed on my '14 F150 I had the dealer pull the plastic engine shroud. I had seen nesting material there. Sure enough, a chipmunk condo.................too big for a mouse.

I've been trapping and plinking them with a Ruger 77/22 w/ Leupold scope. Even though they run "hell-bent-for-leather" their fatal flaw is stopping momentarily for a look back.

I live in the country and those little rodents are everywhere. I have the best cat in the world. He catches between 2 and 4 munks a day and he cant keep up. The reason he is so good, is he eats the munks, gets scratched and heads home to his owner, my neighbor. About once a year my Winchester comes out and the herd is thinned. I have rock wall all around my place. The rodents burrow in behind the rocks and down covers the walls. If someone wants some of these cute little critters, come for a visit and take some home. And an answer to the OP's question is peanut butter on a cracker. I catch them like crazy using this bait. The grandsons think it is fun to catch and release them. We can easily catch 3 and hour, all day long.

Tell an owl. They'll probably appreciate the dining location tip. They'll sure clean out your rabbits, too.
