That's a function of application.
One would only know that a 180 grain JHP in a 44 magnum tends to be a bit superficial, if they actually shot things with them.
Likewise, a 220 grain 308 versus a white tail displays a lack of understanding of ammo and terminal ballistics
 
Ah, com on guys. Many valid points by all posters and obvious most understand ballistics well. Can we turn the burner down half a notch please.
 
You should be so lucky as to shoot a revolver so many times that you get flame cutting.
Those ultra-hot hot .357 loads aren’t any fun anyway. It is not hard to find loads that do not erode anything.
If you get flame-cutting, simply buy another gun.
