I got my rack grade in today from the FFL. It is a Ithaca frame and Remington Rand rebuild. Actually it looks like it has been rebuilt twice. This gun just feels like it is dripping history when I hold it.

Serial number puts it late 1943. You will see a SA stamp over the trigger guard and it is also stamped ANAD 10 76 over the trigger. This is what makes me think it saw two rebuilds. A nice bonus, for me at least, in the RR slide is the Vietnam era S&W replacement barrel. It is stamped SW on the lug and damn near blinded me when I shined a light up the bore, chrome lined. It came with a Vietnam era Checkmate magazine. Keyes Lot 27 and 13 bakelight grips on it as well.

Really happy with this acquisition.

Some pics.

I had an excellent lottery number in round 1 and got a 1944 Colt frame. It’s a service grade. Rebuilt at ANAD in 7 76. It’s a bicentennial gun. Pretty cool. Mid 50’s civilian replacement Colt slide. Don’t know anything about the barrel. Don’t recall the markings. I paid $1050, I think. Worth every penny. Whether it saw combat, cracked a war protester on the head, or guarded a Quonset Hut filled with dirty GI underwear, it did it all on the hip of an American service member. I love it.

Got a matching ‘44 Remington 1st round Service Grade rebuilt at Letterkinney Arsenal, which I understand is rare, with very few replaced parts…excellent pistol…wife received a matching Colt Service Grade with very few replaced parts in Round 2.

That's interesting to hear that your gun was rebuilt at Fort Letterkinny. That's over in Chambersburg, PA, which is in the next county west of where I live.
