CMP Field Grade 1911a1

When I was an infantryman in the 70’s every 1911 in our armory looked just like yours with no finish left .

I worked in the arms room (71-72)=they were all like that. Only times I carried one live (other than the range) was as escort duty (prisoners) and payroll guard on paydays.

I was escorting a "prisoner" (Hippy from Haight-Ashbury in S.F.) through his last day before terminal leave and the XO told me to get my pistol belt and draw a .45 and one clip. I told him "This guy's been going AWOL every time he gets out of the stockade. He's out from under military command as of midnight=he's not gonna "rabbit" on me and if he does, I'm sure not gonna shoot him!".

Well. I took him through payroll, got him a bus ticket, got his leave papers, and took him through his final physical. In front of us was an E-6 MP escorting a couple of guys going to Ft Leavenworth (Military prison). He was also getting out, so he was wearing his broussard (arm band), a pistol belt with a .45, his cap and paper shoes! Chomping on an unlit stogie! Some things you just can't unsee!!!!!

I received a call from the CMP this morning regarding my application. Only two grades, field and rack, were available. I selected the field grade.

My dealer's FFL is on its way. We shall see what shows up in a few days.

Mine was great. Most if not all people I have seen post on the forums that got them are pleased so I am betting you will be also.

It looks like the latest ones coming out are every bit as good as the early ones. Price is right compared to buying one on GB and they are great fun to shoot.

Received my 1911a1 last week after sending in my packet for the 2nd round Jan. 4th.

Recieved a nice Remington Rand frame with G.I. replacement "hard slide" and a neat chrome lined israeli contract barrel. Pistol has Springfield Armory and Anniston Armory rebuild marks.

Took it out and shot it and it functioned fine and was pleasingly accurate.

The CMP folks are great to deal with. I really never expected them to ever offer 1911s again....thanks to everyone who made it happen.

You know, I believe I'm bordering on sacrilege by posting a lowly Tisas 1911A1 on this thread but the resemblance is amazing. Sadly, a genuine CMP 1911 isn't in the cards. The Tisas will never, ever be as cool as the "real thing".

The Turks certainly did a great job with this copy.

The Tisas is a well made clone. The Turks make very good firearms. Nato members, they are reknowned for their prowess in battle. During Korea, while other units were trying not to draw undue attention to their positions, the Turks would light huge bonfires in front of their lines to draw an attack. Im sure they well appreciate a good 1911a1.

Don't misunderstand, I love this Tisas and plan to buy more of the same. They may be the best deal in firearms going.

But it'll never have the history and panache of these CMP guns.

Received the Field Grade 1911A1 from the CMP today. Ithaca frame, Remington Rand slide, National Postal Meter barrel. No rebuild stamps, original finish and IMO, NRA very good + condition.

To say that I am pleased would be an understatement. The bore is 95% or better. No pits, no rust and no problems. Range report to follow in the next week or two.

You pays your money and you takes your chances! I may need to buy a lottery ticket.

I’m never lucky but I was among the earliest to get my service grade. I was number 2927 and I read the numbers started at 1000. 1944 Colt frame with a Colt civilian slide from the 50’s. I shoot it once a year, usually with my M1 Garand around Christmas. Makes me appreciate the men who fought at Bastogne. It’s usually very cold in NE PA, and I’m ready to head home after less than an hour. Can’t imagine what those guys had to deal with.

I sent my packet in early this year and have never received a number or any correspondence from CMP

Glad you like it. Wonder if any of us will live long enough to see the government turn the surplus M-9's loose.

Should that ever happen, the aluminum alloy receivers might be so worn that no one would really want one.
