Coffee and tea preferences

Gman, try this. Gentle on the stomach. Tastes the same as regular.

My wife likes Starbucks Sumatra coffee. I buy the Keurig pods for her. Me, I grew up drinking Maxwell House. I buy the large container of their Master blend and have a refillable Keurig pod.

I like Luzienne sweet ice tea. In the wintertime, I like to make a cup of hot tea and sweeten it with local honey. The honey seems to help with my allergies. Also have some other tea blends on hand, like Earl Grey.

Kirkland (Costco) brand pre-ground in the 3 Lb can. We buy regular and decaf and mix them half & half in a Melita drip brewer.

I like it hot, but will drink it even after it has gone cold or poured cold over ice. Doesn't matter.

I drink it all day every day - about a pot full per day. It's 10pm and I just finished my last cup before showering and going to bed.

My favorite coffee is any/every brand of Coffee Ice Cream, preferably with hot fudge and whipped cream!

On July 9, 1981; I took my 1 1/2 year old son to the health department with me to file his 3 day old brother's birth certificate (all our kids were born at home' so I filed all 4 certificates), on the way home I stopped 2 places: 1) White Castle for coffee, and 2) Friendly's for a half gallon of Coffee Ice Cream. At home the older son was begging my hot coffee, so I blew on a small spoonful until it was cool and gave him some. The loudest "UUUMMMM" came from him. After dinner I was having a LARGE bowl of my favorite ice cream with my wife, to celebrate having successfully had the second son and N0 1 son started begging some Coffee Ice Cream. So of course I gave him some. He went stiff all over, his eves got bigger than his fists and this roar of UUUUUMMMMMMM!!!! came out of the little guy. He turns 40 this fall and is a 6'1" former paratrooper, coffee didn't stunt his growth at all!

I used to use Folgers but recently switched to Hills Bros and I think the HB is less bitter than the Folgers.

Coffee is not naturally bitter. Freshly roasted beans peak several hours after roasting and then begin to deteriorate. That deterioration accelerates once the beans have been ground. Coffee's bitterness is due to stale beans.

You can counteract the bitterness by adding salt to the grounds before brewing (about a pinch per cup of coffee) or a pinch of salt in a brewed cup.

Sugar and/or milk do not counteract the bitterness, they only add calories to an otherwise zero calorie beverage.

I haven't yet tried buying fresh beans to grind up.

Unless you buy beans from the person who roasted them, (or your grocery store has a local source for freshly ground beans), you are not likely going to be able to buy fresh beans. Still better than buying coffee that is already ground, but you may still need a pinch of salt to deal with bitterness.

So, how does one roast coffee at home? That website says it takes 20 minutes for five or six pots worth....

Visit Sweet Maria's Home Coffee Roasting for all the information you could ever hope to learn about home roasting.

I used to home roast. I would roast 2 or 3 times a week. Yes, it can take 20 minutes or so to roast a batch, but most of that time is spent keeping an eye on the roaster.

There's very little cleanup with decaffeinated beans, but regular beans are a bit messy due to the chaff.

Also, roasting beans smell nothing like roasted beans. Roasted beans smell wonderful, roasting beans not so much.

Most of my life I have stuck with Folgers (Columbian) but I have to admit that when I lived in Colorado and Idaho I was a big fan of MJB (only enough for the West it said on the label).

For everyday drinking we either drink Community dark roast or the Folgers black silk coffee. For special treat days, we drink Kona bean coffee, either regular beans dark roasted or Peaberry beans roasted med dark. We order straight from the Big Island, from a company called "Kona Coffee" from their website, Kona Coffee - 100% Pure Hawaiian Kona Coffee direct from Kona, Hawaii . Kona is expensive but is so smooth and flavorful without any bitterness. We buy the beans whole and grind them as needed to brew our special treats, generally in a French Press.

Retired construction worker here and many of my coffee was purchased off a maggot wagon. (food coach to some of you)

My tastes are simple, I like a strong cup of black coffee.
Same at home black no dilution allowed! At home I normally drink 2 cups. Never drink coffee late in the day.

As far as tea goes no way, just never could develop a taste for it

If no coffee I would prefer soda or nothing at al.

I guess you ate your share of road kill.[emoji1]

I like fresh ground beans in a French press. I have a roaster, but it's really hard to beat Dunkin beans......
I start drinking about 0530 and end at bedtime....

I miss the coffee we brewed in the fire house. We mostly used Folgers. . We also had 2 or 3 gallons of sweet tea in a pot . I finally realized I couldn't abide tea any longer. Gave me reflux. Darned near killed me..literally. Now days I just use a Keurig with donut shop coffee. But usually one mug a day.

I went to High School next to the Nestle's plant in Sunbury, Ohio. Twice a day a black fog of stink would fall on the school! Also the water from decatenating was sprinkled on a field by the Middle School a few times a week, it reeked too! It is surprising anyone in that town ever drank another cup of coffee, but I think it somehow made us all addicted!

I like a good dark roast bean. Some of my favorites are from Lakota Coffee in Columbia MO. We came across their shop while at a swim meet at MIZZOU several years ago.

I order fresh roasted beans from them online, grind as needed in a burr grinder and the use a Chemex pour-through to make coffee.

Coffee= Tim Horton's (the grocery store bought brew-it-at-home stuff)

Tea= Lapsang Souchong (tea dried/smoked over pinewood fires)

I think both Lapsang Souchong and Earl Grey are...acquired tastes! But each to his own.

Instant Coffee: Folger's or Maxwell House bags (camping, etc)

Tea: Iced Pure Leaf Unsweetened or Green. Hot tea: green tea.

Coffee: Ravensbrew (from Alaska), especially Deadman's Reach (High caffeine but not bitter==beans we ground each morning). Recently, I tried the "cat poop" coffee I got on Amazon==rather weak.

I only drink Community Coffee, and use their tea bags for iced tea. The dark and between roasts are great, but I prefer coffee with chicory. Paired with an unfiltered Camel, it is one of the best of life's simple pleasures.

For me the, the key to good coffee is how it is made. I grew up using a drip pot. Put the pot in a pie pan on the stove to keep it warm, and pour the water slowly into the drip pot. The slow drip and metal filter makes for a very strong cup of coffee, and allows some of the grains to settle in the pot.

Starbucks Sumatra, fresh ground and brewed strong is the staple around here.
I go through several pounds a month.

My preference for coffee - Death Wish Coffee. 2.5-3 teaspoons for a big mug w/ about a tablespoon of raw honey and some Splenda and milk. Fine! Fine! Really fine! In a few minutes I will start my second mug. Really excellent coffee!

My preference for tea - Tetley tea bags. Steeped about five minutes or so then poured up w/ a 1/3 cup of Splenda and a 2 qt. pack of Crystal Light Lemonade mix and enough water to fill the pitcher up to the top. Serve over a big Yeti of ice! Wonderful!

The coffee I drink in the morning when getting ready to head to the church, study, etc. The tea I drink in the afternoons and evenings usually after I've finished either yard work or jogging/walking. Sincerely. bruce.

It's a little pricey, Fire Department Coffee, (original), available on line, is the stuff. Black Rifle CAF and Just Black is a close second.
