Tea Drinkers - Recommendations?

Lifetime tea drinker, the one I don't care for is Earl Gray-last time I had it-Bigelow's-tasted soapy, too perfumy. My palate isn't that sophisticated, I often find store brands taste about the same. I use a Corningware 3 cup kettle at home, boil, steep and serve in one container. 3 cups of water, 2 bags, boil for at least a minute, steep for 5. Use honey to sweeten. In the summer, the same, put in a glass jar, then in the icebox.

Oolong or most any teas from Taiwan. Whole leaf never tea bag, steeped at 195 degrees and sipped. Relax and take your time to enjoy.

My fav. cuppa for several years has been Taylors of Harrogate Yorkshire Gold.

Available in two versions: English/Home, ie as sold in the UK, and ...um... "colonial", ie blended for (North) American tastes, ie weaker  Most of the product available in N. America is, I think, "colonial" but the UK-strength is avail. on Amazon. Both are excellent, though.

I get the UK-strength from a local shop that brings it in, both as loose tea (my preference) and in bags.

I like many types of tea but my standard go-to is Genmaicha (brown rice tea). I generally use loose tea but it can also be had in tea bags or sachets. Give it a try.

Thanks for the tip! I just ordered some off Amazon. I'm not seeing the difference between North American and UK versions, but no matter. It will be interesting to try a new tea. My go-to has been Murchies, but I'm always open for something new. As I confessed earlier, I'm mostly a coffee drinker. But.... there are times when only tea will do.

I quit coffee some years ago . Drink Twining's Earl Grey Extra bold and really like their Irish Breakfast Tea, it has a malty flavor and really seems richer tasting like coffee with a little sugar and cream.

Ginger-Lemon tea is my all time favorite and it is not sweet as some of the teas i like. Recently diagnosed with the type two diabetes and have to watch every single thing i eat or drink. Tea is not exclusion. With the ozempic coupon i was able to do pretty well and blood sugar control wasn't too difficult.

I almost always drink coffee in the morning and tea in late afternoon.

I can't remember if Amazon distinguishes between "domestic" and "colonial", although I believe that all the loose tea (which I prefer) they sell is the "domestic" strength. That's what my gf in WA orders from them.

I didn't know you could get Murchie's down there. An old BC family company, founded in 1894. I used to shop at their downtown Vancouver when I lived there. They would also do custom blends. A friend in Kelowna used to order a blend her mother had them make up way back when. (McQueen Blend, IIRC.)

Thanks for the clarification, oldbrownhat. My order is still stuck in the Amazon machine and I'm getting anxious to have a taste.

I found Murchies in Vancouver some years ago. I like their stores and the way the do business; and their tea of course. To my knowledge, they have no presence in the US. I just order from the website and they ship to my front door.

As I recall, you're fairly close to the border. If so, we're sharing some of Mother Nature's crankiness. Definitely tea weather.

They filed for bankruptcy in 2007 and were taken over by Belmont Management, a Victoria-based property management company (!!) Not sure if Gwen Murchie is still working with them. But they seem to be going strong, so more power to them. I read in another article that the founder, John Murchie, before emigrating to Canada, delivered tea to Queen Victoria at Balmoral Castle.
“The British have an umbilical cord which has never been cut and through which tea flows constantly. It is curious to watch them in times of sudden horror, tragedy or disaster. The pulse stops apparently and nothing can be done, and no move made, until “a nice cup of tea” is quickly made. There is no question that it brings solace and does steady the mind. What a pity all countries are not so tea-conscious. World-peace conferences would run more smoothly if “a nice cup of tea”, or indeed, a samovar were available at the proper time.” (Marlene Dietrich)
Yup, I'm about 10 miles north of the border. Ma Nature, ever the perfect egalitarian, doesn't respect national boundaries, passports, political opinions or any of that stuff, so we're stuck with her capriciousness, too. My 19' well is holding at about 7', but I have about 3500 USG of rainwater in underground tanks, so at least I can make tea for the forseeable future :D

Wife's family is from England... and she is a 2/3 mugs a day addict.... morning and 4PM sharp!!!!!!!!..... and anytime any of the family gets together .... first order "a nice cup of tea"

House tea is "PG Tips" (available on Amazon). Likes it a bit better than the Yorkshire Gold mentioned above!

For caffeine I stick with coffee, no health related problems. But I do drink a fair amount of herbal teas, my favorite brand is Yogi. They make a lot of different varieties, some have caffeine, some don't.

Google Teavana. My daughter gave me this Teavana service ( 4 more cups not pictured) a while back. Their selection of teas is staggering. If you can't find something in there you pro'lly don't really want tea.

Everything from plain old green tea to the exotics like the Blooming Peach tea and many other specialty teas.

Good hunting. Lemme know if you get something and how you like it.

It is not cheap but there is always Lipton Cold brew. :p:D
