IF I were going to buy a 9mm Glock...which one and what to add/change?

I tried, Oh Lord, tried. But sooner or later I got rid of them. With all that being said, I liked the grips of the single-stacks, even though I have large hands. For deep concealment, I carried a G-43 in a Galco pocket holster. For an all-around, I liked the G-48 with a Holosun.

I found the 17 and 19 too middle of the road. That's why I have a 34 and a 26, both Gen 3. The 34 now has Trijicon night sights, a threaded AAC barrel and Tango Down trigger, but the 26 remains stock.

So I've owned two Glocks since I started shooting sometime in the very early 1960's. I couldn't shoot them worth a damn (when I was shooting everything else just fine) and sold them almost immediately (Glock 19 and 17).

I'm tempted to try one last time, strictly for range use.

I figure on fitting it out with a bunch of Apex stuff, new sights, and whatever else will improve it.

And I'm wondering which one to buy: 17? 19? Another number. And which version: 1, 2, 3, what's to choose from and why?

There's plenty to read about how to upgrade, so I won't be asking that here...just what one I can get for the least price, invest a couple of bucks making it better, and be able to say I got one (as I have 'bout everything else I need or want, except a Walther P88 which I can't afford, a S&W 1911 which is also out of my current price range & I have a decent 1911 anyway, and a 4053 or 43 which I'm sure I'll find soon.)

I'm thinking of a gen 1 19 or 17, as they are probably not-so-rare and cheaper than anything later..but any and all advice is appreciated.
I've had a G45 for several years that I like a lot.

Are you guys telling me that my beater Glock 17 is now "Collectable"??

It is a MPDC trade-in,, serial number ETXXX,,,

??????????????? Hmmmmmmmmmm,,, ????????

Redcoat, My 2¢ worth. I was issued a Glock years ago, was an armorer, and owned a few of my own. I should perhaps mention that I was never Glock's biggest fan; still not. The only one I really missed was a Gen 3 G34. Saw Glock still makes them, for California and acquired a new one. I changed the front sight to one more to my liking, but not interested in creative soldering iron work on the frame, designer colors, creative contours and holes machined in the slide, etc. Not the best concealed carry gun, but otherwise the G34 seems like a good general use pistol to me.

BTW, Back in the day, I bought a new Walther P88. Certainly a high quality pistol, but had a grip about like a 2"X2". I realized I'd never be comfortable with it, never fired it and disposed of it. I've read the grip on the P88 Compact is much improved. Apparently I was not the only owner who couldn't abide the blocky grip...

SweetMK, a totally original Glock 17 package will bring big money from an avid consumer providing all the tools/stickers/U-notch magazine/box with cartridge holders are intact; at least in my area. I live fifty miles from Glock, Inc. in Smyrna, GA. IN my experience (with my own Gen. 1 Glock 17) few folks want to pay big money for a gun alone.

I'm picky about what firearm that I will buy. Never a glock, they are plain, ugly, stupid looking, and overpriced. I'd buy a Ruger or Smith anytime - but thats just my opinion.

I would buy the gen 5 Glock 45, you get the 19 size slide, and the glock 17 grip which is way better in my opinion, I dint even use my 19 anymore, because the45 is my favorite glock

The 19 is a good all around pistol. If mostly used as carry gun the 48 can’t be beat. The slightly longer slide then 43x gives it more support in the holster and it’s nice and thin.Change the sights and leave the rest alone.

I own a Glock 19, Glock 26 and a Glock 43. I don't have a picture of the Glock 43 and I don't think I've carried it in a year or two. To be honest if I could talk my wife into it I would sell it and the Ruger LC9 and buy an M&P Shield Plus as a replacement.

The only thing I've changed on either one of those guns. Was the Glock 19 has OEM steel sights instead of the plastic Glock plastic sights, and the 26 has Ameriglo I Dots on it.

I don't know if it counts as a change but when I bought the Glock 26 I bought a bunch of Magpul 12 round magazines for it and I bought five or six OEM 12 round magazines for it and three OEM two round extensions for the 10 round magazines that came with it.

The Glock 43 somebody put skateboard tape on it before we bought it.

I qualified expert with the Glock 19 every time I qualified with it.

I don't think I ever tried to qualify with the 26.

If I were thinking of buying a Glock, I would lie down until the feeling passes, and then go buy a Smith M&P compact.

Seriously, I think the Glock 19 is the best configuration, and the Gen 5 is supposed to have all the bells and whistles, although I have not seen one.

If I was going to buy a 9MM Glock.......I should hope and pray my range buddies would pull me aside and slap some common sense into my pea brain......

To many nicer 9mm to select from than Glock....Any 9MM slide that has a G stamped in it is old news.

I have three Glocks; a 19 Gen 4, a 42 and a 21 (LEO trade in, but in great shape). If I bought another, it would be a 17. Pictured is the Glock 21 Gen 4.

When did it replace the Glock 45 in your eyes?
Actually, If I recall correctly, the 19x came first. I like the magazine floor plates for the 19x better . . .
I never got the fascination versus the price difference.... All a 19X amounts to is a Glock 17 with a slightly smaller slide for $200 more?
I don't consider prices differences with firearms. It puts all the weight of a 17 round magazine in your grip, with minimal slide movement. So easy to control . . .

Gen3 Glock 19, hands down. Lacks the ambi slide-stop (that I detest), doesn’t have teething issues some of the early (2010-12) Gen4 19s did with the heavy RSA.

17 or 19. leave them stock. Neither will replace or get shot 1/10th as much as my 638.
