I am an accumulator. In my mind a collector will focus on XXX - brand, caliber, style, model, etc, etc, etc.
I enjoy quality firearms, regardless of brand, caliber, style, model, etc, etc, etc.
The key element is does the gun call my name? If not, I will find the one that does.
As was stated earlier, the definition is truly moot, if an individual sees themself as a collector, I will not disagree.
It is not an important issue compared to the true issue that requires intense discussion - say like charcoal vs. gas.
I guess you would call me an Accumulator. I'am a caliber guy. 22LR from the 1950's to now. I have many, both rifles and pistols.
Pump
Lever
Bolt
Semi-Auto
Revolver
Semi Pistol
I don't go for rare, or pristine. I go for shooters, and shoot mine. Some more than others.
I'm know for .22LR. Lots of questions/advise asked.
My Father was the Collector type. Buy the best gun out there(NIB). Keep it in the box and store it. Never shot them. He had a few shooters he kept around for fun. When he died at age 86 years old, we had to sell them for various reasons. (Sisters).
We got a little over 100K for 30 guns. I don't know what he had in them, but I bet less than 10K.
I think the difference between me and my Dad is that I love to shoot.
He loved to have things to look at.
Boy's and their toys, are all different. I know some car guys and they will spend large amounts of money on a car they love.
I always think I could buy a 100 .22lr rifles/pistols for what they spent, and have more fun.
But too each their own.
I don't call myself an accumulator, but I am not a Collector either.
