Color of gun change felony in ny?

In an attempt to try to clarify the term DISGUISED GUN in the Republik of New York, here’s the exact definition of a DISGUISED GUN, as per the NYS Penal Law:

“Disguised gun” means any weapon or device capable of being concealed on the person from which a shot can be discharged through the energy of an explosive and is designed and intended to appear to be something other than a gun.

So refinishing a firearm, but not trying to make it look like a toy or some non-firearm item should be ok. I understand the intent here, don't want perps to make their pistols look like toys or something else so as to not attract attention until they use them in a crime.

If you change the color of your gun you are altering it from the registered description.

At least, that's my guess.

Here's perfect case..

Parolee drives around the city firing several rounds setting off the ShotSpotter in 4 locations.
PD catches up with the suspect veh and attempts to pull it over.
Chase results and the susp ends up running a red light & T-boning an innocent driver at a Main St intersection, killing the innocent driver.

Parolee serious condition but expected to live.

Inside parolees veh they find a Mac10,,or Mac11 depending on the news report.
It's been painted various bright circus colors in the attempt 'to make it appear as a toy gun' (in the words of the Police).

We'll see if that charge, along w/the possession of the firearm unregistered in NYS,,possession of a firearm by a convicted Felon, possession of same in commission of a felony are even followed thru.

In the very first minute of this local news broadcast shows the Mac in all it's PlaySchool colors.
You guys can better tell if it's 10 or an 11.

Nice to have laws,,but if you're not going to enforce them when the bad guys break 'em,,then don't bother me with them either.
