80's series Combat Commander with some ivory shoes.
Most collectors pass on the newer Colts and BHP...I still can't pass a newer one if it's crisp.
Fed various factory ammo thru this today...nary a hic-up.

That's one of the classier .45s I've seen in a while. Congrats, ... and good to hear it's still a shooting gun.

PRETTY pistol. I have a Series 70; a friend's daughter is shown shooting it here. I had Clark stipple the front grip strap and the mainspring housing. He also installed Novak 'adjustable' night sights: I'm not happy about these. It still has the original black plastic grips: I've got to see about getting a nice set of sharp checkered walnut grips to help hang onto the beast when fired with Federal 230 gr HPs. I'm going half way across the state to the San Antonio gun show this weekend, and it's going with me (with 10 shot Wilson magazine); very comforting in a motel room when things go bump in the night.

I have 2 Comanders, one in 45 and one in 38 Super. I call them "The Twins" but they aren't a true pair. They just look good together! They have factory walnut stocks on them now, and I can't afford elefant teeth, maybe a couple pair of stags some day, the pearls looked "Pimpy" on my blued 1911's, but good on dad's model M's. Ivan

That is a beautiful Colt Commander!

I wouldn't be able to let it languish in the safe either, but I'd probably take that beautiful ivory off, so they didn't get gun oil onto and in them.

That's a very nice specimen that you have there. I have several Commanders and carry one just about everywhere. I have the SS for carry, but I would love a deep royal blue one to show off at BBQ's

Here is my EDC...sorry for the slightly bad photo....also, she wears Grasshorn's elk now :D

Nice stocks. I took the wood off of this one and replaced them with cheap black rubber stocks. I found this gun without box or papers that someone traded in a rush to buy an AR. It shows some use but I intend to carry it so it will get used some more. Dealers don't get them very often so prices are going up. Jim

After over 40 years I still am kicking myself. I went home to wisconsin and found 3 for I think $125s apiece. They were in .38 super, 9mm and .45 one was nickled, forgot which. They were NIB but at a big discount for the day. I asked why and was told they were stold out of the store, shortly recovered and had to be sold as used. As usual I was about broke and no longer a resident. I really could have enginenered it though as dad lived there.
Then I bought a nice satin nickle series 70 with nice red looking walnuts and stupidly traded it off to a buddy. (All commanders). Hes retired in his eightys out of state. Hmmmm think I might call him and see if he`s broke. I once wanted a nice s&w 53 jet another guy had. I found out what kind of gun he was dreaming of, went and bought a brand new 1911 and swapped. Those were the days.

Does Grasshorn do bobtail grips, or did you do the mod yourself? Just curious.

Patrick did make the grips. We had to send them back and forth to get the dimensions right since he does not have a bobtailed frame yet. He did a great job.....I need to get some photos of them for y'all.
