Does anyone know if Colt will refinish an older Detective Special. The one I have was probably left on a car floor or something similar and has some light rust spots and not much of the original finish left. I'm not looking for a show gun, I just wanted it to look better. I will be shooting this gun like I do now but I want the gun to be protected.

I looked on their site and can't seem to find info on refinishing revolvers.
Any help will be appreciated...

Looks as though they are restricting orders to Colt SAAs and 1911s only:

Colt Custom - Colt Firearms

That said someone here recently posted photos of a dark finished new stainless Python the factory did, so I suppose it won't hurt to ask.

Last time I heard anything about Colt Factory replating, the wait time was YEARS and Bluing was well over 14 months!

For shooter grade, I just Parkerized my all steel guns! For the aluminum framed revolvers I used Birchwood Casey's products. You could use a good gunsmith, but the protection is the important part because the Collector's value is down the drain!

I not sure about Colt doing refinishing currently but I'm also a fan of Hard Chrome.

try this company Firearm Plating -Mahovsky's Metalife . A friend of mine had a pistol done in the 90's and was done very well. Also they are in north west PA

Is Ron still a one man show? He does/has done great work and his price is hard to beat.
If I had a gun to be hardchromed, he’d likely get it.
He must be getting up there in years, doing it for so long.

I believe you would have to call Colt and ask what services they will provide. They are not the company they once were.

When I lived in Connecticut, I took a stainless officers model to the custom shop to have it polished to their bright stainless finish along with an action tuning. The work was magnificent. Cost 100.00. That was say 1985. I doubt they will do that now

I've heard mixed stories about Colt Factory refinishing. Some say they won't and some say they will - it may actually depend on how busy they are at the time you inquire. They are now owned by CZ so their policy may not be the same as it was two years ago - but my thoughts would be to call them and ask.

I will say I had two guns refinished by Colt a few years back and they did an absolutely spectacular high end Case Coloring & Royal Bluing on them that rivals any Turnbull job! I am one picky *** and quite critical and I have nothing negative at all to say. Their work was quite impeccable! I can only hope their methods and work ethics are still high.
