Anybody got any pics of their Detective Specials or Cobras? I've never owned a Colt snubby, but I could almost be persuaded to trade a Smith for one after seeing several on the 1911 Forum today.

Colts have appeal, but also have more cylinder timing issues. Unless you want it for notalgic reasons, I'd stick to Ruger and S&W in modern revolvers.

Manurhin and Korth make good revolvers, but are very high priced here, if found at all. And parts and service will be an issue, as with Colt. Many "gunsmiths" don't have the skill to work on Colt revolvers.

1934 detective special.
And yes it's ok to have a Colt or two along with your Smiths.

I have a 3rd-gen. Detective Spl and a Cobra, both nickel and both 2" .38 Spl. They are buried somewhere in the safe. Sorry no pictures.

The pony guns do lock up nice and tight . . . . .

No problems with the timing on this vintage 1960s Det. Special. It's tight, and it shoots where it's lookin'! Wouldn't trade it for anything, and it gets along swimmingly with my S&Ws.:) I used it last Saturday in our zoot shoot match. Somebody saw me loading it up and said, "Hey, why does your snubby have an extra hole in the cylinder?" He was kidding of course, but that is one of the reasons I like the D-frame Colts. 6 shots!

I love my j-frame but there is nothing cooler than a dick special. Maybe it's all the old PI films from the 40's I fell in love with but most likely it's because it's the first gun I ever saw. My earliest memories are of my dad taking it off the china closet and strapping it on his ankle...He's 81 and still carries it that way...:)

Nice Fitz Special, Chad!

Here's my nickel 1972 Dick Special-

I've got a Cobra from 1974.

I'd tote it more if I could find a holster I liked for it. :(

I need to order a PMK from Milt Sparks, but I would rather test drive one before I spend $90 and wait 6 months for it.

Every collector should own at least one Detective Special...

This '72 vintage DS has such beautiful deep bluing, the picture really doesn't do the gun justice. It's beauty is more than skin deep, the action is as smooth as any S&W in my collection.

Colt Snubbies, might have one or two. And NEVER a timing issue. Great revolvers!

I've got an "Airweight Dick" Special . . . the Colt Agent, from 1961.

I'll probably never sell it (it was my dad's and he carried it daily until the very day he dropped dead with a massive heart attack) . . . but I'll probably not shoot it much again either. Yep . . . timing issue. Then again, its a Colt.

Dad would just stick the Agent in his back pocket, and thus he wore off the finish through the years, carrying it at his automotive junk yard day in and out. Heck, he wouldn't even put it in a cheap Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

Dad never had to shoot it, though he had to pull it once, to save the life of a Florida Highway Patrolman who was just about to have his gun wrestled away from him on a lonely country road. Dad always had a way with words, and the thug realized real quick that dad was more than willing to blow him away if he didn't surrender IMMEDIATELY. Another life saved via a gun!

Here's the rugged "survivor," next to my Model 36 from the same era. I've always been as much a Smith fan as dad was of the Colts:

I've got a couple. The stainless DSII is my 3 season carry piece. The Diamondback would probably get the nod, though, if I could find a proper holster for it.
